Help setting up USB drive
I have my 640GB USB drive connected to a CentOS 5 server and using
fdisk, it seems to show a partition of the correct size, /dev/sdd1, but
after mounting, the drive shows only 244M size. Does the message
received when running fdisk below mean I should reformat this drive, I
can't seemed to figure out how to do...

xVM Ready for serious use ?
I currently have 2 x ESXi boxes that have VMs stored on a NFS/iSCSI debian lenny linux box. I had purchased a new whitebox server as an intended replacement for the linux box. I had always planned on installing opensolaris on the new hardware with this config;
2 x 640GB mirrored rpool
6 x 1TB in raidz2
This box was going to be built in parallel with the current server and I would have simply copied the VMDK files across.
Main reason for the move to opensolaris is ZFS and all its goodness like;
end-to-end checksumming
expected good NFS and iSCSI performance (...

7-disk raidz achieves 430 MB/s reads and 220 MB/s writes on a $1320 box
...-570 MByte/s seq. reads (what''s really interesting here is that the
bottleneck is the platter speed of one of the disks at 81 MB/s: 81*7=567, ZFS
truly "runs at platter speed", as advertised, wow)
I used disks with 250GB-platter (Samsung HD753LJ; they have even higher
density 640GB and 1TB models with 334GB/platter but they are respectively
impossible to find or too expensive). I put 4 disks on the motherboard''s
integrated AHCI controller (SB600 chipset), 2 disks on a 2-port $20 PCI-E 1x
SiI3132 controller, and the 7th disk on a $65 4-port PCI-X SiI3124 controller...

Growing a zpool mirror breaks on Adaptec 1205sa PCI
Setup: Osol.11 build 109
Athlon64 3400+ Aopen AK-86L mobo
adeptec 1250sa Sata PCI controller card
[re-posted from accidental post to osol `general'' group]
I''m having trouble with an adaptec 1205sa (non-raid) SATA PCI card.
It was all working fine when I plugged 2 used sata 200gb disks of a
windows xp machine into it. Booted my osol server and added a zpool
mirror using those
