iscsi storage creation
Hi, I have set up a 40GB iscsi target on my san and when I add it in to the storage pool and it shows up as 40GB. When I try to create a 40GB volume in the ovirt UI it tries to but fails. The error message is that the volume will not fit. If I create one smaller than 40GB it works. Is anyone else experiencing this?...

CentOS 4 Software Raid1 questions
I want to mirror an existing 40GB data only drive using software Raid1 on my new CentOS 4 server. The existing drive is connected to a Promise Ultra 100 TX2 controller (non-raid). I have read about mdadm and understand how to create the Raid1 on /dev/mdxx devices. However I would like to know if the existing data on the orignal 40G...

Replacing Samba with a new one
Dear all, I currently have an old machine running SuSE 8.1 and Samba (as installed out of the box) setup and working as a windows domain for a set of WinXP SP2 machines. Everything is working just splendid except that I am Running out of space on it because it has a 40GB drive. Recently I have been instructed to switch the machine's hard-disk with a brand new one which will be ofcourse larger in size to the 40GB capacity that the current one is. I am also thinking of reinstalling a fresh and brand-new installation of SuSE's latest version with the samba th...

Can I get rsync to delete missing files first?
I am backing up a remove partition which is 38Gb onto a local partition which is 40Gb. Rsync is complaining that I have run out of disk space on the local partition, and I can tell that this would not happen if local files that are missing in the remote system were deleted BEFORE copying down new files. I note there is a --delete-after option, but is there a --delete-before option?...

drive size limit for syslinux
I was working on making a 40gb laptop ide drive bootable via syslinux as the drive is in an external hd enclosure. syslinux installed on a 100 mb bootable fat32 partition and when I tried to boot from the drive, I got a syslinux prompt which was correct as I had not done a config file yet. I later found a 60GB laptop ide drive...

backing up email / saving maildir on external hard drives
Hello, Yesterday I tried to back up a 40GB maildir . I tried to move the maildir from home to external HDD but failed. Decided then to compress it(which took several hours). Now changing the disk format from FAT to exFAT to allow the transfer for the large compressed file. How does one back up emails on a external drive? Some advice would...

Incremental purge?
...part processed by week day for example). > Finally, use -u option of doveadm purge into a loop. This is a good idea for installations with tons of users. Good point. I would be personally interested in incremental purge per user. My personal IMAP account, for instance, has at this moment about 40GB of mdbox files. I keep most of my email for decades, but sure I could free some space doing a purge, but I am scared of trying with 200.000 mdbox files without knowing how long it would take. -- Jes?s Cea Avi?n _/_/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ jcea at jcea.es - https://www.j...

Upgrading to larger HD with LVM
What's the easiest way to transition to a larger HD when using LVM2? I'm running Centos 4.4. I'm going from a 20gb HD to a 40gb HD. I've already DD'd it to the 40gb HD. So now I have 20gb of unused space. Ideally, I'd like to make it one big physical space for the logical space instead of making another physical partition to expand the logical. Here is what I have now with the system on hda, and with another...

ZFS root clone problem
(for some reason I cannot find my original thread..so I''m reposting it) I am trying to move my data off of a 40gb 3.5" drive to a 40gb 2.5" drive. This is in a Netra running Solaris 10. Originally what I did was: zpool attach -f rpool c0t0d0 c0t2d0. Then I did an installboot on c0t2d0s0. Didnt work. I was not able to boot from my second drive (c0t2d0). I cannot remember my other commands but I...

Renamed files and directories
What is the current status of both rename-patches ? Are there alternative measures ? Frequently users reorganise directories and files. Recently a directory of 40GB was renamed... It took 3 weeks to re-copy all over an ADSL-link. I have followed the last couple of years the postings, and realise it is not as easy as it seems. But the users do not understand this at all 8-( Thanks, Nico

questions regarding 40G Samba Server
Hi, we expect a growth in bigger file transfers (files n*10 GB up to multiple 100GB) on a regular base from a smaller number of users combined with the "normal" office use with word files, mail profiles etc from about 500 users. We plan a new Fileserver/Storage Head with 40Gb NICs client and storage side. What would be regarding to samba be of more importance: multiple Cores or more MHz per core? Any suggestions? Feedback? Thanks! and regards . Götz

SSD for boot drive and OS
I just ordered a new machine that's destined to become a Centos 6 application server for a publishing company, and decided to get one with a 40GB SSD as well as a standard hard drive. I'm thinking that I can put most of the operating system on that drive and have the home directories and whatnot on the regular hard drive. Are there any pitfalls lying in wait for an unwary person like me when setting this thing up? Further, I suspect t...

rync killing the machine
Hi All, I have a production server that's running our corporate mail (Cyrus-IMAP). I used to use cpio to archive the mail store, but that's just getting silly now that there's about 40GB that it needs to run through. I tried running rsync in order to backup the data, but as soon as I started running the script the machine came to a grinding halt. I left it running for about 30 minutes while rsync said it was analyzing the file system but the server was un-usable and I was forced t...

not mounting ext3, 2.4.10
...th ext3 support built-in, along with the JBD Debugging support. Compiled the kernel and rebooted, everything was fine. Did a tune2fs -j /dev/hda2 on the partition in single-user mode, with e2fsprogs 1.24a. It complained about not having enough space, or something like that, (I have 7.6GB free on a 40GB drive.) However, it seemed to work ok and it created a /.journal file about 32MB in size. I changed my /etc/fstab to read ext3 instead of ext2 for the root partition, and rebooted. However, I got: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly. mount showed the partition as ext3, but when I did a cat...
