Will a VIA Epia ME6000 with a 600MHz Eden fanless CPU be suffiecient for 8 extension system?
Hello I am using a VIA Epia ME6000 with a 600MHz Eden Fanless CPU. Is this likely to be enough power for a 8 extension system with 6 external pstn lines? How important is cpu? Is there some measure, eg xMHz CPU per extension or something benchmark? I have installed 512MB memory - again any benchmark for asterisk memory usage? Angus

Stolen and degraded time and schedulers
...y used. It's wrong now, because it fails to take into account of several kinds of missing time: 1. interrupts - time spent in an ISR is accounted to the current process, even though it gets no direct benefit 2. SMM - time is completely lost from the kernel 3. slow CPUs - 1ms of 600MHz CPU is less useful than 1ms of 2.4GHz CPU The first two - time lost to interrupts - are a well known problem, and are generally considered to be a non issue. If you're losing a significant amount of time to interrupts, you probably have bigger problems. (Or maybe not?) The third is not some...

scp vs ftp performance on SGI IRIX????????
Hi, Running OpenSSH 3.5p1 or 3.7.1p2 on two SGI orgin 300 systems of IRIX 6.5.17 with 4 600MHz CPU and gigabits network. Transfer a 1GB file with ftp took 28 seconds. Transfer a 1GB file with scp took 148 seconds. Use "snoop" to capture all network packets between these two systems. Ftp tansmitted about 107840 packets, but scp transmitted about 763339 packets. Is this normal? W...

cpuspeed settings??
Hey, folks, Sometimes my workstation bogs down... slows to a crawl. Using gkrellm, it's obvious the CPU is the laggard. The top utility confirms: the load average gets up over 4 at times. But this occurs when cpu stepping pegs the speed at 600MHz. This processor is capable of 1.5GHz and when it's allowed to run at that speed, the load average is under 2, which is fine. So the question is: what's a good /etc/sysconfig/cpuspeed file? This workstation is a notebook and it can get hot. Of course I'd rather type on slow machine t...

Fail to convert any .Rd file
Hello, experts! I've tried to convert MASS.Rd, for instance: R CMD Rdconv -t txt MASS.Rd -o MASS.txt 2>MASS.log Comp was thinking for a long, about 30s on Linux 600MHz/128M, but after that R didn't produce the result MASS.txt file, but very large log. Here is its header: ******* Syntax error: mismatched or missing brackets in /----- \name{Aids2} \alias{Aids2} \title{ Australian AIDS Survival Data } \description{ ... and so on, almost entire MASS.Rd follo...

acpi: fan running and cpufreq always at minimum on centrino
Hi, I noticed that the fan of my centrino is very often running since I use Xen (the load is very low still). Also the cpufreq is always at 600MHz (the max is 1500MHz), regardless of what of what heavy computations I do (e.g. calculating md5sums). I heard that it is not possible to run a cpufreq scheduler like powernowd or cpufreqd, but would it be possible to set the cpu frequency at least to the maximum value in Dom0 and DomU and leave...

Perl vs. R
...someone write the equivalent in R? The benchmark and associated files are available from: http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/keith/crisis/benchmarks/invert/ You'll note on this page that Perl runs the benchmark in 3.5 secs. That was in 1997. My 5.6.1 version of Perl runs it in 0.18 secs now, on my 600Mhz Linux platform. Wondering how fast R will be in comparison. Thanks, John Day FYI, here's the Perl source: #!/local/bin/perl # invert benchmark in Perl # see <url:http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/keith/crisis/benchmarks/invert/ # Keith Waclena <k-waclena at uchicago.edu> while (<STDI...

Run out of memory
I am trying to use R to cluster 7129 samples, my data set is a 7129 x 38 matrix, when I trying to get the distance matrix using function dist( ), the memory exhausted, and I tried to set the memory when I run R by R --vsize=250M --nsize=1000k no matter what I set for vsize the result is the same, it says: Error: heap memory (256000kb) exhausted [need 198498Kb more]
