freebsd 5.x and quotas
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, I've to create a dir (/usr/local/samba/server) for win users (group @test), and I've to simulate a dir quota (50-55Gb) on my freebsd system. These are my steps: 1. kernel with 'options QUOTA' 2. rc.conf with enable_quotas="YES" and check_quotas="YES" 3. fstab: /dev/da0s1f /usr ufs rw,groupquota 2 2 then I've modified the quotas for group test...

Testing memory limits in R??
...64bit OS and I have compiled R from source with the following config ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/R-2.9.1 --enable-Rshlib --enable-BLAS-shlib --enable-shared --with-readline --with-iconv --with-x --with-tcktk --with-aqua --with-libpng --with-jpeglib and I would like to verify that I can use 55GB-60GB of the 64GB of memory within R. Does anyone know how this is possible? Will R be able to access that amount of memory from a single process? I am not an R user myself but I just wanted to test this before I turned the server over to the researchers.. Thanks! -scz

Zlib plugin - when does it make sense?
Hi, I run a small IMAP server for a dozen guys in the office, serving about 55GB of Maildir. For enabling the plugin, I...

ext3 tuning parameters. what are they
When memory is low, ext3 gets a bit sluggish cursor getting jumpy etc. I say ext3 because I don't see a similar behavior with ext2. What are the ext3 tuning variables that I can try? For example, I see a message like "commit interval 5 seconds" in /var/log/dmesg.

6Tb Database with ZFS
...how much i should set, do you think 24Gb will be enough for a 6Tb database? obviously the more the better but i cant set too much memory. Have someone implemented succesfully something similar? We ran some test and the usage of memory was as follow: (With Arc_max at 30Gb) Kernel = 18Gb ZFS DATA = 55Gb Anon = 90Gb Page Cache = 10Gb Free = 25Gb My system have 192Gb RAM and the database SGA = 85Gb. I would appreciate if someone could tell me about their experience. Best Regards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
