get means of elements of 5 matrices in a list
I've got a list of 5 matrices that are each 5 x 6. I'd like to end up with a 5 x 6 matrix that contains the mean value of the 5 original matrices. I can do this by brute force, but there must be a better way than making each matrix into a vector and then remaking a matrix thanks very much for any help david freedman ll=list(structure(c(9.7, 17.6, 20.8, 24.1, 33.8, 14.5, 25.7, 29.8,

Adding reference line or plane to cloud or wireframe
All, I am wondering how one might add a reference line or plane to a cloud or wireframe plot. I have been unable to figure this out. Let's say I would like to draw a reference for some value of wt in the example below: cl <- 54.1 age <- 10:80 wt <- 25:160 sim <- expand.grid(age = age,wt = wt) sim$cl <- cl*(sim$wt/70)**0.412 * (sim$age/50)**0.152

xyplot (Lattice): Group order in display
Dear R users, I would like one of my groups in xyplot to appear to lie 'behind' the other groups. I have searched for help and find many, many topics about panel order (e.g., "as.table"), but that is not what I need. What is odd is that the group that I want to appear 'behind' the others (PROFILE) is the last in alphabetical order but xyplot is plotting it first. Any

segfault / crash when asking for large memory via strrep()
We've had this more general topic on R-help, and also in R-devel recently. There's one case here where I get the feeling R never gets into swapping but more directly aborts possibly from a bug we can more easily fix. Today I've been working (successfully! - not yet committed) at fixing str() for very large strings. In this process, I've found that pc <- function(.)

segfault / crash when asking for large memory via strrep()
That would be because the product nc * ni overflows in cbuf = buf = CallocCharBuf(nc * ni); Since we disallow strings with more than 2^31-1 bytes we could test and reject this. It might be more future-proof to change the declaration of int j, ni, nc; to R_xlen_t j, ni, nc; and let the character allocation code reject, but that would create a memory leak since the Free call

[LLVMdev] [Polly]GSoC Proposal: Reducing LLVM-Polly Compiling overhead
Dear Tobias Grosser, Today I have rebuilt the LLVM-Polly in Release mode. The configuration of my own testing machine is: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390(1.86GHz) with 2GB DDR2 memory. I evaluated the Polly using PolyBench and Mediabench. It takes too long time to evaluate the whole LLVM-testsuite, so I just choose the Mediabench from LLVM-testsuite. The preliminary results of Polly compiling

Maruson power net 1500 support?
I recently took over maintenance of a linux computer which is drawing power from a "Maruson Power Net 1500" UPS. However, there is currently no monitoring or control of the UPS by this (or any other) computer. Can nut control this device? There are serial, usb, and EPO connectors on the back of the unit. (There may be a manual but I'm going to have to hunt for it.) Thanks, David

[LLVMdev] [Polly]GSoC Proposal: Reducing LLVM-Polly Compiling overhead
Dear Tobies, Sorry for the late reply. I have checked the experiment and I found some of the data is mismatched because of incorrect manual copy and paste, so I have written a Shell script to automatically collect data. Newest data is listed in the attached file. Tobies, I have made a simple HTML page (attached polly-compiling-overhead.html) to show the experimental data and my plans for this
