Centos 5.1 distro: How to upgrade 5.0 to 5.1 with yum??
Hi, Redhat announced RHEL 5.1 on Nov 07, so hopefully CentOS 5.1 will be ready shortly. But I get kind of nervous of the arrival of 5.1. My problem is: I have hundreds Centos 5.0 boxes just finished installation and I will continue to install and upgrade hundreds more in next few months. With the arrival of Centos 5.1, I don't like to reinstall them anymore but continuous upgrade instead

After 5.1 update $releasever is still 5
I have performed the 5.1 update via the 5 repo on a couple of systems. I then went to switch these systems to my new local repo using ther $releasever variable. It still has the value of 5, not 5.1 Where is this set? Why was it not changed to 5.1? On the one clean install from the 5.1 isos, $releasever is at 5.1 I think.

What happened with 5.1-RELEASE?
There used to be messages on this list around the time of a new release, letting people know what was happening, but that isn't happening this time. What list should the following question be directed to, if not this one? My auto-download program snagged a copy of the 5.1-RELEASE install ISO yesterday morning, but no release announcement was made. The directories exist on most, if not all

[OT?] diffs between mysql 5.0 and 5.1, and upgrading to mysql 5.1?
being used to mysql 5.1 on my fedora system, i'm suddenly looking after a centos 5.4 box with mysql 5.0.77. before i start digging into the mysql 5.0-5.1 changelog, do i have a lot to worry about in terms of mentally backing up one version? or is simply upgrading the centos box to mysql 5.1 an option? (i realize that mysql 5.1 is *not* officially supported in centos 5.4.) rday --

where did the column names go to?
I've just tried to merge 2 data sets thinking they would only keep the common columns, but noticed the column count was not adding up. I've then replicated a simple example and got the same thing happening. q1. why doesn't 'b' have a column name? q2. when I merge, why does the new column 'y' have all values as 5.1? Thanks in advance, Mr. confused > a <-

CentOS 5.1 x86 medium installation problems
Hi, I had downloaded CentOS 5.1 x86 DVD image, and although it passed sha1sum or md5sum test and I burned it verifying it, installation failed. Also if I recall correctly, when I tested the medium during install, it failed although as I said the media was verified. ==> The same things happen with Scientific Linux 5.1 x86 installation DVD, so perhaps it is a Red Hat EL 5.1 x86 DVD issue?

Question about Mirrors
I am trying to set up a local repo for my division. I tried to rsync 5.1 updates off the mirrors and recieved an error of no file or dir. After going to the mirror, I notice that all of the 5.1 filder is empty and there is a readme there that states..... This directory (and version of CentOS) is depreciated. For normal users, you should use /5/ and not /5.1/ in your path. Please see this FAQ

Unable to compile --with-mysql on Solaris
Hello I'm hoping someone can give me a pointer as to how to compile Dovecot with MySQL support on Solaris. I am trying to compile dovecot 2.0.13 (also tried 2.0.9) on Solaris (OpenSolaris 2009-06, snv_111b) with the OpenSolaris provided MySQL 5.1.30 under /usr/mysql. The server is a Sun X2100 M2, which has a dual core AMD Opteron processor (amd64). Running "./configure

Back to my Xwindows kernel panic
I have a newly built drive with 5.2 fresh install (that I will be cloning shortly) in my DECtop and it is failing with X the same way the upgrade from 5.1 drive did (not too supprising there). In 5.1 X worked. I could startx from init 3 and get into GNOME. Also VNC into the box and have a GNOME screen. With 5.2, I get a kernel panic. Well I guess it is a kernel panic because once I run

To upgrade or not
My laptop is a Thinkpad T20 running CentOS 5.1 The reason it is running CentOS at all is because Fedora Core 6 was workable on it, but Fedora 8 was a complete dog. Anyway - with all the new desktop stuff in CentOS 5.2 I'm wondering if I would be happier just leaving it at 5.1 rather than letting it update to 5.2. Will 5.1 continue to get security fixes if I leave it at 5.1 or do I need

Only stereo instead true 5.1 sound in World of Warcraft
Hi, Im trying to get World of Warcraft to sound the same way as in win xp - i mean in real 5.1 - no duplicating channels in alsa etc... Problem is that WoW in Wine 1.1.2 detects only stereo mode as SESound.log file in wow logs says: Code: 8/18 16:22:22.509 - Detected Control Panel Speaker Mode = STEREO 8/18 16:22:22.509 - Setting WoW Speaker Mode to STEREO but in winxp WoW detects real 5.1

Calling for 5.1 Mastering experience! (vorbis ambisonics and 5.1)
I've been doing a fair amount of work with Vorbis support for Ambisonics, which seems to be going along nicely. It seems that there is signifant interest in coding 5.1 material with Vorbis esp as tarkin becomes more complete, so I've decided to take a break from pure ambisonic work to look into this. I've decided that the best (from a pure elegance and patent avoidance) way to handle

Multichannel files
Hi, As I´ve understood things, the Ogg Vorbis format supports more that two channels (stereo). Is there any tools to encode x sourcefiles into one .ogg file? I am a musican and am thrilled with the ide of makeing music in surround (or in more than stereo). This leads to my next question: is there (developing) any decoders for multichannel oggs to, let us say, 4.1 or 5.1 surround? Wouldn´t it
