Mean error
Hi, Try either: res1 <- apply(mydata[,1:2],2,mean) ?res2 <- colMeans(mydata[,1:2]) ?identical(res1,res2) #[1] TRUE # Also if you need to find means for each group ("Ungrazed vs. "Grazed") by(mydata[,-3],mydata[,3],colMeans) #or if column names are "V1", "V2", "V3" aggregate(.~V3,mydata,mean) #or library(plyr)

persp()
Hello I am trying to draw a basic black and white map of two European countries. After searching some key words in google and reading many pages I arrived to the conclusion that persp() could be used to draw that map. I have prepared three small example files, which are supposed to be the files required for running that function. xvector is a vector with the longitudes yvector is a vector with

[LLVMdev] 2.1 Pre-Release Available (testers needed)
Hi, LLVM 2.1-pre1 test results: Linux (SUSE) on x86 (P4) Release mode, but with assertions enabled LLVM srcdir == objdir # of expected passes 2250 # of expected failures 5 I ran the llvm-test suite on my desktop while I was also working on that PC, so don't put too much trust in the timing info. Especially during the "spiff" test the machine was swapping

Puppet/webrick benchmark
We haven''t been able to use mongrel for testing yet, but in order not to waste time, we did some performance testing with 1, 2 and 4 puppetmasterd/webrick processes. Attached is an HTML page (ripped from our wiki - not pretty, but reasonably readable) which describes the method and results. If someone feels like making some nice graphs, that would be great. If not, I''ll try to

lmer Error: Downdated X'X is not positive definite
Hi, This is the first time I've posted, and I apologize if I formulate this incorrectly. I am analyzing data from a multi-region carrot variety trial. 35 varieties of carrots were grown in 3 randomized complete blocks in organic and conventional fields in Wisconsin, Indiana, Washington, and California. In this example I am comparing the heights of the carrot tops at harvest. In other

Heteroscedasticity and mgcv.
I have a two part question one about statistical theory and the other about implementations in R. Thank you for all help in advance. (1) Am I correct in understanding that Heteroscedasticity is a problem for Generalized Additive Models as it is for standard linear models? I am asking particularly about the GAMs as implemented in the mgcv package. Based upon my online search it seems that some

[LLVMdev] 2.1 Pre-Release Available (testers needed)
LLVMers, The 2.1 pre-release (version 1) is available for testing: http://llvm.org/prereleases/2.1/version1/ I'm looking for members of the LLVM community to test the 2.1 release. There are 2 ways you can help: 1) Download llvm-2.1, llvm-test-2.1, and the appropriate llvm-gcc4.0 binary. Run "make check" and the full llvm-test suite (make TEST=nightly report). 2) Download

virtio-scsi <-> vhost multi lun/adapter performance results with 3.6-rc0
Hi folks, The following are initial virtio-scsi + target vhost benchmark results using multiple target LUNs per vhost and multiple virtio PCI adapters to scale the total number of virtio-scsi LUNs into a single KVM guest. The test setup is currently using 4x SCSI LUNs per vhost WWPN, with 8x virtio PCI adapters for a total of 32x 500MB ramdisk LUNs into a single guest, along with each backend
