Possible to use array of spline functions for storing data?
...mortality
estimates within intervals for a range of conditions and ages. I have
four mortality tables derived from the Society of Actuaries 2001 VBT
tables that contains interval mortality rates by starting age and year
of duration. I would like to flexibly interpolate using a large set
(~4MM) of ages and conditions as input to small number (~300) of
functions, but my toy implementations puzzle me when I examine them,
and I cannot seem to store them properly. Say you start with a vector
of qx's:
> qx = c(.001, .003, 0.005, 0.01, 0.03, 0.06, 0.12, 0.24,0.4, 0.8)

How to backup from Win to Linux using smb
...itted this one to the mailing list awhile back, but I've made some
improvements, so here it is again.
We have cron run a script every night that backs up all the systems (Win and
Unix) to a single tape. Naturally, the tape capacity needs to be large enough
for all the systems involved. The HP 4mm DAT DDS-3 tapes with 12 gb (before
compression) capacity work nicely for us. We also do incrementals on most
of the Unix systems, and avoid making copies of program files on the Win
systems.
Here's the script:

Setting the names attribute of a list?
Hello,
I have created a vector with 2 elements(see code below)
I am calling this function many thousands of times (hundreds of
thousands) after some time
i get
*** caught segfault ***
address 0x5, cause 'memory not mapped'
However, if i dont set the R_NamesSymbol, I do not get any such error.
Am I doing this correctly?
Thank you

Kerberos5 / Heimdal
I have FreeBSD-6.1 and it appears the default installation has a full
complement of Kerberos5. But, /usr/src/kerberos5/README states:
This subtree is world-exportable, as it does not contain any
cryptographic code.
At the time of writing, it did not even contain source code, only
Makefiles and headers.
Please maintain this "exportable" status quo.
Thanks!

depending on whether your executables or libraries have been compromised.
Third of all, the first thing you should do is make some backups,
preferably in single user. Think of these as photographs of the crime
scene; they will be referred to later and must be of the highest
quality. 4mm DAT, 8mm and DLT are all suitable media; so are CDs.
(Indeed, periodically making 600 MB snapshots of critical pieces of your
installation, using a CD burner, is one of the cheapest ways to archive
your data; the cost per megabyte is cheaper than any other media I know.)
All of your analysis sh...

smbtar
To all,
Can SambaTar backup multiple "pc's" at once ?
I have 5 Win95 machines with 9 different drive partitions. What would be
the proper syntax ( if any) to specify multiple pc and multiple share names
? I would like to do one complete backup on a single 4mm DAT tape.
Is there a better way to do this using Samba ?
I am using Samba version 1.9.17p4 running on Sun Solaris 2.5.1
Thanks in advance,
David Fish

[Bug 69083] New: using DVI to VGA adapter for CRT and specifying supported "PreferredMode" >EDID preferred mode, screen output is compressed into small fraction of top scan lines

preferred (NEC FE2111SB here) via PCI to VGA adapter
2-set 'Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1440"' in 'Section "Monitor"' in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf*
3-start X server
Actual results:
1-entirety of video output displays into top scan lines, approximately 4mm or
less in height
2-usable desktop only for those who can use it without seeing video output
Expected results:
1-normal display output
2-normally usable desktop
3-"normal" even if fallback to EDID preferred 1600x1200 is necessary to do so
due to gfx hardware device limitation
