rsync-2.5.6 performance sucks between winXP and Solaris8
...ver it takes 4-5 minutes, about 70 MBytes gets transfered and eventually rsync.exe/winXP "dies"; actually winXP's net doesn't responde anymore and I have to boot whole machine! But when I try to do same between Linux and Solaris everything works fine, transfer speed is about 4Mbytes/s; also between winXP and Linux(as rsync-server) everything is fine too! So, is there some known issue (with rsync) between winXP and Solaris? -- IsoH

btrfs on low end and high end FLASH
...m a thread elsewhere: FLASH can be categorised into two classes, which have extremely different characteristics: (a) the low-end (USB, SDHC, CF, cheap ATA SSD); and (b) the high-end (SAS, PCIe, NAS, expensive ATA SSD). My own experience is that the low end (a) can have erase blocks as large as 4MBytes or more and they are easily worn out to failure. I''ve no idea what their page sizes might be nor what boundaries their wear levelling (if any) operate on. Their normal mode of operation is to use a "FAT32" filesystem and to be filled up linearly with large files. I guess the mor...

How do I create a Theora and speex file? Can the java Cortado play speex audio files? tom_a_...

Slow transfer file between Windows and Samba PDC (2.2.3a)
...nge SO_SNDBUF and use 16384, the transfer file slow down at 3Mbits/s. uh oh. sound bad. I'll do some other test this week end in my home configuration (FTP, NFS transfer files) to see if this is not related to a connection problem. (I'm not sure, but I think the NFS transfer is more likely 4MBytes/s than 1Mbytes at home) Here, *really* puzzled. Why samba is so slow? A weird idea comes in my mind: What about Windows 2000, as a PDC, performances? At work: Duron 700, 256Mo RAM 100Mb Windows 2000 server, acts as PDC. Launch a 100Mo file copy on PDC. It takes 2 minutes. Uh oh? It's less t...

Uncoupled mode?
Hello, A question: Can we use uncoupled encoding in the 1.0? (current CVS) How? Because I see some uncoupled definitions (books\uncoupled\res_books_uncoupled.h), but I don't know how could I switch to it manually. Perhaps with an option in the vorbis_encode_ctl() function... Because I think so it's better if I don't use any kind of channel coupling (lossless neither) on high bitrates
