CentOS + GNU Zebra
Hi folks,
At work, we're considering the idea to replace the presente router with
a stardard box with CentOS as a SO and GNU Zebra as a routing software.
The line is a 4Mbps SDSL.
?What do you think about Zebra and what are your experiencies with it?
Any feedback will be so appreciated.
TIA.

They''re killing me (the spammers)
Yes, last night it was 4Mbps the rate of incoming mails.
I was wondering if I apply HTB to the following scheme:
router -> gw-iface -> MX-server
If HTB (new verb) the interface that communicates with MX, say, 2mbit,
what will occur to the Input queue of gw-router-iface? Will I still
get the link full for 4mbit or wi...

What makes excel file opening so slow??
Hi list,
Despite the question I asked last time (I will re-install the FC3
with Samba 3.0.14a on another computer for replacement soon), I still
have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening
is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case
is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around
400k. Actually we got both side having

Packet Loss !!
We have been using HTB for last 10-11 months without any problem. But from last few days we have been facing huge packet loss when we turn on traffic shaping using HTB. I upgraded to 2.4.24 kernel (without any htb patch), still there is same problem.
Avg. traffic is around 2Mbps and 4Mbps at peak hours. There are around 110 HTB classes and SFQ attached to each class.
We are using 4 port Tulip (only 2 ports in use) card and a 3Com 59x card.
Previously I was using default quantum and r2q values for all the classes.
Somewhere I saw quantum = (link in Kbit) * 1024 / ( 8 * 1500) so I t...

Need cbq or htb optimal solution

Two: server own services (unlimited) + 30Kbps Internet bandwidth
Three: server own services (unlimited) + 15Kbps Internet bandwidth
Now I have to distribute speed between these clients, which are around 120.
If I calculate I should have over 4Mbps total bandwidth. Currently I am
using cbq for controlling bandwidth and have 120 cbq classes, one class per
user. Is this good or I should have 4 categories of classes and users
sharing the speed. Currently I figure out that in diff times of day
bandwidth utilization is diff. sometimes users utiliz...

Plugin or Gem install is too slow
I''m using a Macbook with Leopard 10.5.4 . When I try to install a plugin
from a remote source via Terminal it takes a long time to finish
downloading all the files to my vendor/plugins folder. My internet
connection is not slow (average of 4Mbps). When surfing with a normal
browser, eg firefox, it''s not slow at all . I tried several plugins from
different locations and with all of them installation was very slow.
Does anyone have an idea why it''s too slow?

Strange problem, please help
...ally, for 15 minutes the problem didnt
appear, while the other way it appeared in much less than 5 minutes). In
this case, even activating things like a Netflow probe in eth0 didnt
disturb at all the system.
The same problem seems to appear with a Via 1Ghz box with 4 realtek
ethernets and around 4Mbps of traffic (this system was placed under
heavier load, and as the problem appeared, we tested with the big box
the same afternoon). When the problem appeared this box was so slow
we could not even make a ssh session so we dont know if this is the
same problem (but bet it is).
So, some questio...

apache slow on lan transfers?
When I download a file from apache on the lan (gigabit lan), I only
get 3-4mbps of download speed, opposed to accessing the file via FTP
or SMB which results in 500+ mbps of transfer speed. As far as I
know, I'm running the stock apache (httpd) that is distributed with
centos 5.3, and haven't changed anything in the config file with the
exception of setting up various...

Bandwidth via my Asterisk PBX
Am new to Asterisk - have it up and running & connected to a couple service
providers (telasip & teliax). Nice!
Am running our Asterisk PBX on a static DSL connection (~600 kbps up/~4mbps
down), and would like to extend VoIP service to 10 non-profits we're working
with. Am I correct in assuming that all calls from each organization would
route through our Asterisk server & be passed off to the service provider (
i.e. TelaSip, Teliax) thus keeping our bandwidth requirements...

...dev eth1. After that, i run "tc -s qdisc". For each of the class
(pfifo for EF; red for BE), there are parameters "drop" and "overlimit". For
the drop parameter, is it supposed to mean how many packets is drop by the
class. Eg: if i limit EF to be 3Mbps, and i send 4Mbps, shouldn''t i supposed
to see some number in the drop parameter? But i only see zero for the drop
parameter. Another thing, for the paramter "sent 10000 packets" shown, does
it mean that i should also receive 10000 packets in Host2? I have packet
loss from router to Host2. So,...

Slow TCP performance from Win2k8R2 guests under Linux KVM
...treams on
Windows 2k8R2 guests of KVM virt servers?
virtio-win-1.6.3 was published to address a problem described as "low
performance" on Win2k8 guests. Actual performance was not recorded in
the bug report.
On my KVM servers, Windows 2k8R2 guests are able to send data at less
than 4Mbps. I test this by using netcat on Windows and piping a file to
its input. The receiving end of the transfer is an un-virtualized
CentOS system. Transfer rate is measured by selecting the stream in
iptraf while it is active.
UDP transfers, such as by CIFS, will send data at around 400Mbps.
TCP...

SuSE Linux Enterprise Server OpenSSH 5.1p1 nagle issue?
I have a system in place where it appears that TCP will make a massive
change in behavior mid-stream with existing SSH sessions. We noticed the
issue first with an application using an SSH forward. However, we were
able to rule that out by generating the same TCP characteristics by
having a perl script dump text out to a terminal simulating a large data
flow from the far end(ssh server) back

DGD patch not detecting dead gateway
Hello all!
I applied http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/routes-2.6.8-10.diff patch to kernel
2.6.8.1 and it works fine, or almost fine. It does the load balancing
well, but when one link is dropped it continues to try it.
At the end of http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/nano.txt it is said to ping
gateway 1 and gateway 2, for the kernel to know if that route is
working, but since my linux is connected to the links

Updated Crossbow virtualization architecture document
Folks,
I just posted an updated Crossbow virtualization architecture
document. The new revision is available at:
http://opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/Docs/crossbow-virt.pdf
The main changes are the addition of support for multiple MAC
addresses per client, and an explicit separation between
consolidation private and project private MAC API entry points. See
in particular the
