setting printing preference in 3.0.1 for 'HP LJ 4/4M plus'
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using the 3.0.1 release on Solaris 9 in security mode ADS. It works fine in general. But there are some problems with printer drivers. For ex the HP LJ 4/4M plus driver can not be set to 'A4' from 'letter' in the printing preferences. I use 'rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /p /t3 /n\\...' to get to the dialogue, so I'm pretty sure I try to write on the server, the connections also looks good (printer admin rights). In the...

What makes excel file opening so slow??
...n another computer for replacement soon), I still have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around 400k. Actually we got both side having 4M/4M DSL line. One side is Hong Kong, and the other side is China. However if we build a VPN inside Hong Kong, it takes 10~20 seconds to open a 400k excel file. However if I just copy a 400k file, neither of them take such a long time. Both situation can finish the transmission within some seconds. S...

printer drivers question
I'm setting up faxing from our server using mgetty+sendfax, and the setup from http://relay.boerde.de:82/~horstf/ Basically, what this does is collect the print job normally via samba print services, then asks the user what number to fax it to. The asking is done by a program run on the user's system at startup called 'responder'. I have installed the print drivers on to the

High memory use and LVI/Correlated Value Propagation
...e could be > made more memory efficient. Fixing the existing code to be memory efficient > is the right approach. Only once there's no more low hanging fruit should > we even consider clamping the search. Memory efficiency is only half of the problem. I.e. groonga's expr.c needs 4m to build on my laptop, a 2.7GHz i7. That doesn't sound reasonable for a -O2. Unlike the GVN issue, the cases I have run into do finish after a(n unreasonable) while, so at least it is not trivially superlinear. Joerg

writes got stuck
Hi there, I''m periodically having issues with btrfs running in a Ubuntu VM using VirtualBox. After the VM has been running for a while (a couple days), any write operation seems getting stuck. The read seems totally fine. I tried a simple dd of a 4M file and it got stuck after writing 131K worth of data. I don''t know if this is btrfs related, or it is due to some bug in VritualBox. Could you guys provide information on how to debug this (collecting logs, getting dumps etc.)? Thanks a lot! thanks, - cheng -- To unsubscribe from this...
