CIFS & Gigabit Eth - 35MB/sec limit
Hi honorable people!
In self-education purposes only, I would like to ask is 35 Mbytes/sec
bandwidth limitation of SMB/CIFS in Gigabit applications?
I've try read large file (45GB) from server to client's dev/nul and don't
get bandwidth greater than specified...
But, using FTP or NFS I get REAL stable read speed at 80 MB/sec!
Same picture in synthetic TCP tests.
Why while SMB in use network utilization oscillate around 25% and nothing
more?
Is that mean that in 10G...

"disk full" error message (again, again)
...ull.
Word 97 reports "The save failed due to out of memory or disk space"
and then after retrying I get "The disk is full. Free some space yadda
blah blah etc ..."
Other apps report "Disk Full"
The fun bit is that
The disk is nowwhere near full. 49GB share with 45GB available
I can save a 50MB file into the same directory via NT explorer.
I can save the word document in the parent directory.
I can save the word document in some of the sibling directories but not
all of them.

doveadm backup and quota
Hi,
I'm looking to convert all mailboxes from Maildir format to mdbox.
When I try my procedure on a user having ~45GB of messages, its quota is
growing very fast and is now up to 66GB.
I run this command :
doveadm -v backup -u user at domain.com
mdbox:/mnt/maildata1/domain.com/user/mdbox
I expected this command to make a copy of user mailbox, it does not make
sense to count the backup in its quota.
Maybe qu...

not enough disk space
...s of what program I
try and install -- running programs works fine, but not installing
them.
The problem is when I try and install a program using wine, it says
that there is not enough disk space. This doesn't really make sense as
I've got loads of disk space all over the place:
/ -> 45gb free
/mnt/max40 -> 5gb free
wine's windows drive is locate on / at /home/tolos/.wine/drive_c/
but... there's more!
not only does a wine trying-to-install app fail to find my free space,
but it reports it wrong:
/ is reported as having ~680mb free
/mnt/max40 is reported as having ~2.7...

It only seems to happen when logging into X or just after
so I don't see any error messages and nothing in the logs.

SMBMOUNT Performance between RedHat and SuSE
...nt-point
unmount /mnt/mount-point
============================================================================
========
This cycle repeats for each required share on each server. <No gripes about
rsync, partial backups, etc. please. This is the way I want it to work.>
This amounts to about 45GB of data a night. This used to take 8 hours
total, now it's taking nearly 12. Nothing changed hardware-wise or in my
script, only the distro.
Could just the change to SuSE cause this much of a performance loss? Is
there anything I can do to increase the performance? I'm not looking for...

Fwd: Re: ext3 with maildir++ = huge disk latency and high load
23.09.2011 11:31, Janne Pikkarainen ?????:
Thank you for reply,
BTW, other webserver has almost the same bonnie results (10283ms and
5884ms) on ext3 partition with 45GB of data (1.5 millions of files)?!
Hardware and RAID5(also hardware) are the same: HP Proliant DL380 G4

but not kit).
I did not tried to mount fs with barriers disabled. Does it have any
crititcal risks?

Tools to analyze status/stats?
Hello,
I recently installed dovecot on a server running Debian.
I only have 10 users, but we probably have 6Gig of email between us.
Things were working flawlessly for a couple of weeks, and I'm still getting
email, but the last few days we are getting fewer emails that we typically
do.
So although things seem to be working well, everyone is suspicious something
is wrong due to the lack of

Disk IO tuning
I am using XenServer6, and I need to get performance equal or close to what
we get on the hardware, especially with large files.
Are there any hints host side or guest side to increase performance. What
should I look at?

EXT3 performance on Large (multi-TeraByte) RAID
Has anyone experienced a significant degradation in ext3 performance when using it on a Multi-TeraByte RAID? As part of an experimental setup, I hooked up three 300GB drives and made an EXT3 RAID5 out of them, using the entire space one each drive, and started throwing a large number of files in the size-range 3KB to 50 KB. Then, I deleted the raid, and created a new one, but this time, I used

AIX 5.1 rsync large file
Hello,
I have inherited a setup where there are 2 AIX 5.1 systems in 2 separate
sites. There are large database files that are backed from each site to
the other via rsync. Currently, it is using rsync version 2.5.4. It does
it via ssh with the options -avz. This has all been merrily plodding along
for some time. There is one file that is over 45 GB, and it started having
trouble with that

Being attacked by an Amazon EC2 ...
Just a "heads-up" ... my home asterisk server is being flooded by someone
from IP 184.73.17.150 which is an Amazon EC2 instance by the looks of it -
they're trying to send SIP subscribes to one account - and they're
flooding the requests in - it's averaging some 600Kbits/sec of incoming
UDP data or about 200 a second )-:
This is much worse than anything else I've
