SMP Performance
We're looking at implementing Asterisk in our department in the near future, we're looking at anywhere from 15-25 extensions. The machine we were looking at running this on was a Quad Xeon 450mhz (2MB L2 Cache) w/ 1GB of ram. I've heard bad things about running Asterisk on SMP machines? Would we be running into any performance issues with this machine? performance problems with rc10 and solaris 10
Hi, i have 2 dovecot imap server running on solaris 10 The primary server with dovecot 1.0.alpha4 is running with best performance on Sun Sparc E4k5 with 8x 450MHz The secondary with rc10 has ugly performanceproblems on Sun E450 wth 4x 450MHz. Every new imap process takes permanent 25% cpu usage List the folder and fetch message are both slowy! Both servers are configred with ldap backend preventive i deleted for rc10 the complet index and controlfiles,...

Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway
...acity somewhere in the translation. Before we attempt to sweep this under the rug by using Gb NICs/switches for the LANs, we'd like to understand what's going on. I can't find any recent statistics for Linux NAT performance, but the older stuff I can find (e.g. 50k packets/sec for a P3-450Mhz) seems to indicate that the gateway should easily be up to the task of handling the NAT traffic. Am I wrong about this? Is there any way to diagnose whether the NAT is the bottleneck? Would we benefit from upgrading to a newer CentOS (2.6 kernel as opposed to 2.4)? Or is it more likely to be th...

Benchmarks
Hi ! Is there anyone that has any current benchmark results from Sparc CPU's ? I'm mostly interested of US-III 750 and US-II 450, But any US-II/III would be interesting. AMD K6 and CentOS 3.3
I've downloaded CentOS, baked CDs and start installing it on one old 450MHz AMD K6 based box with 392MB of RAM. To my regret, CentOS refused to load (to be installed). The message on the screen was something along this line: "Your architecture is not supported" I am sure that this is NOT CentoOS fault. It seems to me that RH does NOT support K6 CPU. Is my s...

Cheap Time sources which is best?
On the same P2 450Mhz box..... I have tried both UHCI usb on a 2.4 kernel and enhanced RTC on a 2.6 kernel. Have not tried UHCI USB on a 2.6 kernel as of yet. Both seem to work GREAT. I have read in many places to be sure to use a digium card as a time source and not to reply on the cheap solutions. However I have r...

Different average bitrates on different machines

Budget Hotel PBX
...e of price. The analog phones must have FSK message waiting lights instead of the cheaper voltage type since asterisk doesn't support that. So, a TE410P {or 400} and two Zhone 24FXS channel banks will be used. I couldn't google up any info on what mobo but I'd like to start with a 450mhz since I have one laying around with 64bit slots but if that's marginal I could get a dual Athlon server board or whatever. I'd also greatly appreciate knowing if anyone out there is actually using asterisk in a similar hotel application today. TIA

Win2k logout exception error with Samba 2.2.3a-12.1
...ly be completed anyway. One thing I was wondering that might be causing this is some problem with response time from the server. Could one end or the other be timing out and causing an operation to fail? Neither machine is very powerful, the server being a PII 400MHz and the desktop being a PIII 450MHz. This idea may have no bearing on the problem, just a thought. Any ideas? My second issue is the logon process takes about 2 minutes, which seems quite excessive. I have no documents stored in "My Documents" structure. There are a number of files involved with my favorites, desktop i...

...doing calculations. Ultimately, I have to import many (ca 20-100) of these tables, which will be impossible on my current machines due to memory limitations. My question now is the following: At work I have access to the following multiprocessor machines: a, Compaq Proliant Server: 4 x Pentium II/450MHz, 2 GB RAM, Win NT b, Sun Enterprise 450 Server: 4 x SPARC/??MHz, 2 GB RAM, Solaris 2.6 For testing purposes I would like to install "R": 1, Can R take advantage of multiprocessor machines? 2, Which machine would be better suited to run R on? Finally, the question is: Is R or S-Plus bett...

ppc questions
...no? I've got a > pile of unused G4 400-800mhz powermacs just sitting around The ppc32 distro will work on any NewWorld G3, G4 based machine ( and 32bit ibm power, like the older rs6k's ) - it _also_ works fine on the MacMini and G4 Xserve's. With some common sense tweaks, a G4 450Mhz is a very usable machine running CentOS4 in 386MB of ram. Much more usable than OSX Tiger. > that I'd love to > get some use out of, but I don't think they'd be very responsive with > OSX tiger. how much of Ram do these machines have ? if its anything >=256 megs, you...

OT: OGG in the mainstream
...BR. ices2. pretty basic setup. no skips. Prehaps it's an issue with your CPU having poor floating point, or prehaps its OddCast, or prehaps it was compiled without CPU optimisations, etc. But we've been doing it for quite some time quite successfully with ices2. furthermore, with my K62 450mhz I've successfully done 44100/stereo encoding at 128k with ices2, it uses about 90% of the cpu but it's doable. Dropping to mono makes it much faster, dropping the bitrate (56k vs 128k) makes it even faster. Dropping to 22050 samplerate makes it dramatically faster. -- Fetch my GPG key...
