plain source -> encrypted destination: rsync + gpg
...sent over? Are there other alternatives? (hopefully more elegant than maintaining a shadow copy of all the files!). There's an "GPG and Rsync" thread describing almost exactly what we want <http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=adkpb7%242t6v%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26q%3Drsync%2Bencrypted%26spell%3D1> And also rsync-backup seems to be almost there -- but things seem to be happening at the server end. http://www.stearns.org/rsync-backup/ cheers, martin

--include-from with no source directory
Dear Friends, I've seen this come up on the list in the past, most particularly here. http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rsync+include-from+cat&hl=en&lr=&ie=UT F-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=b2h7t8%2422nt%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&rnum=2 I find myself in a very similar position. Ideally I'd have a single file, as follows: + /www - /www/bigstuff + /home - /home/tempuser + /var/log/httpd These are directories I'd like to backup recursively. This currently seems akward to do with the current...

using more than one ldap server in smb.conf
Hi! I'm trying to get Samba running to accept more than one ldap server in smb.conf. I applied this patch (http://groups.google.com/groups?q=smb.conf+second+ldap+server&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=ar08ok%241pjt%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&rnum=5) to the samba (2.2.5) sources, but samba doesn't query the second ldap server I specified in smb.conf. Is there a version that can handle multiple ldap serverr ? Greetings Stefan -- __________________________________________ stefan weigel administration...

Some C help patching sender.c (from:plain source -> encrypted destination: rsync + gpg)
...i, I am exploring extending Kyle Jones' patch (which implements post-transfer filter in receiver.c) to pre-filter or otherwise pre-process the file before it is sent. Kyle Jones patch can be found here <http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=b6f55s%24256q%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&rnum=6> and the rationale for what I am trying to do here <http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=rsync&m=105660948415347&w=2> Down to what I am asking help with: I am _not_ a C hacker at all, my strenghts are Perl -- if anywhere at all. So I would appreciate your...

Hardware - no way -Re: Crashes maybe due to: "error writing 4 unbuffered bytes"
...isten to me: "The crashes are dues to rsync" There is an IDENTICAL report from a totally different source at http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%2B%22rsync:+error+writing+4+unbuffered+by tes+-+exiting:+Broken+pipe%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=aemsfq%24894% 241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&rnum=1 Oh - except he was Running Red Hat linux - so don't go blaming SuSe. Appreciate you trying to help, but I didn't come down in the last rain-shower :-) Trevor http://www.TrevorMarshall.com >If running rsync crashes your (non-MS) server you have a >proble...

File size limitations?
Hi I'm running rsync 2.5.6 protocol version 26 on solaris 8. I have a local software RAID array, plus a mounted netapp fileserver, and am looking to replicate the contents of the netapp mount on the RAID array. I run a cronjob each night, with lines like :- /usr/local/sbin/rsync -ar /netapp/all/projects /backup/vol0/ >> /tmp/rsync_log.txt 2>&1 Looking at the log files, I get

rsync's "value to large" error.
HI, I'm trying to transfer a list of files within a filesystem to another filesystem. I've used the option: # rsync -avzol --progress /wp05/global/FCSI/WP_RLS05/rundir/ /nfs_proj/global/WP/ However, it had produced the error below: building file list ... global/FCSI/WP_RLS05/rundir/wp_celtic_max_fullwarn.tcl.log: Value too large to be stored in data type # du -sk wp_celtic_max.tcl.log

Samba + Fat32 partition = Corrupted files???
...on the shared FAT32 partition! The corruption is usually a block or number of blocks of "0". The size of the file is irrelevant, I saw it on 1GB files as well as on 5Kb files. I've seen reports about this problem in other places: http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=9srcpj%24nfr%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw&oe=utf-8&output=gplain http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=6ff2bd50.0111080855.2b1a20b4%40posting.google.com&oe=utf-8&output=gplain Since other people complaining about similar problems use Solaris/Linux whatever..I suspect it is a Samba problem and not FreeBSD. for what it's worth, I think I have inadvertently solved an old problem...
...I was having this strange folder recursion problem. It persisted through many samba upgrades. The problem can be seen here in this thread: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&frame=right&th=48f08dabcabb2877&seekm=9oglr1%241d66%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw#link1 I think my configuration was wrong, and as I was using security = server, it's incorrectness was not apparent. I am using MSDFS and the roots are hosted by NetBIOS aliases. I stumbled on the fix by trying to get security = domain to work. In my %L.conf files, I had a lin...

HSM devices and FreeBSD
I am essentially asking the same question that Eirik Overby asked a couple of years ago. Is anyone aware of PCI-X/PCIe hardware security modules that are supported on FreeBSD? I have not seen any on the FreeBSD hardware compatibility lists. Again, as Eirik noted in his question, HSMs are not simply crypto accelerators (which are supported on FreeBSD), they also are a means of storing keys

Samba 2.2.8 SEGV in rpcclient getdriver on Solaris 7
Hello I was trying to figure out how to add printer drivers manually for downloading to Windows 2000 clients and I came accross this problem. (The printer drivers were installed some time ago using an earlier version of samba 2.2.x). $ dbx /usr/local/samba/bin/rpcclient (dbx) run xxxxxxx -U yyyyyyy Running: rpcclient xxxxxxx -U yyyyyyy (process id 4735) Password: rpcclient $> enumprinters

sftp-server (secure) chroot patch?
...src of sftp-server.c I found three patches that does it: http://www.alt219.com/software/sftp-server-chroot/ http://www.coding-zone.com/chroot+sftp-server.patch http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=sv&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&frame=right&th=45c783aa0a25801a&seekm=arc304%241v5l%241%40FreeBSD.csie.NCTU.edu.tw#link1 Problem one seems to be that setuid(getuid()); is reversable. Also better sanity checking before chroot is required. I have written a patch that (probably) is more secure than the ones I found. It uses uidswap functions to change uid & gid. Someone said the point beh...

Please test rsync-2.5.6pre2
The second rsync-2.5.6 pre-release version is now available at: http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/preview/rsync-2.5.6pre2.tar.gz ftp://rsync.samba.org/pub/rsync/preview/rsync-2.5.6pre2.tar.gz rsync://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/preview/rsync-2.5.6pre2.tar.gz There's also a corresponding '.sig' file that contains a gpg signature of the file; the public key is available on the
