VMware restricting to 3GB RAM
Hi, I am running VMware player on CentOS 5.4 and its working fine. However it does not allow me to increase the RAM more than 3GB. ?It keeps throwing error stating- "Requested memory size is greater than allowed maximum of 3072 MB. Could not initiate memory hot plug."? I understand from few threads that 32bit OS has this kind of limitation but I am able to understand why I am seeing this issue when I am using 64bit...

Bug#734761: xen-system-amd64: "XEN kernel detects 3GB RAM instead of 4GB"
Package: xen-system-amd64 Version: 4.1.4-3+deb7u1 Severity: normal The xen kernel detects 3GB of memory instead of the full 4GB. When using the "normal" kernel 4GB is detected. On boot the 4GB is detected: root at ams-tc1-xen27:~# dmesg |grep Mem [ 0.000000] Memory: 3226132k/4980736k available (3426k kernel code, 788180k absent, 966424k reserved, 3312k data, 576k init) But on...

Difficulty Increasing R memory on Windows 32-Bit
...nce, I'm running Windows XP, 32bit, Service Pack 2 on a machine with 4GB RAM. Following the FAQ, I set the --max-mem-size flag to 2800Mb. However, when I start R, I get the error: "WARNING --max-mem-size=2800M: too large and taken as 2047M." The R Windows FAQ says Rgui.exe supports 3Gb per process under "suitably enabled versions of 32-bit windows." So, the above should be fine if Windows is "suitably enabled." The FAQ also says how to enable Windows this way, and it links to a Microsoft page about setting Windows's /3GB switch. From what I read, however,...

Problems with XP32-"3GB-patch"?/ Worth upgrading to Vista X64?
...3,2 GB RAM and 2.) it is normally not allowed to allocate more than 2 GB of RAM to one single application (at least under XP, I don't know if that has changed under Vista?). I remember from the R-FAQ that you can manually adjust XP so that it allocates up to 3 GB to one application ("the 3GB patch"), but I read in a PC-magazine and some message boards that this may cause problems. Does anybody of you successfully use this "trick" without any problems? Would it be wise to use a 64bit OS, as e.g. Vista X64? I think, under Vista X64 it should be no problem to allocate 4 G...

RAM disapeared?
Hello, I have some dom0 which have 8GB RAM, but when I look with xm list, it just shows me 6GB, I need to setup some new VM, each with 1GB, so I should have with 3VM still 5GB free, but im only seeing 3GB. Can I just create 2 new VM with each 1GB and still have 3GB for the dom0? #xm top xentop - 11:31:17 Xen 3.1.0-53.1.14.el5 4 domains: 1 running, 3 blocked, 0 paused, 0 crashed, 0 dying, 0 shutdown Mem: 8386888k total, 6336300k used, 2050588k free CPUs: 8 @ 2327MHz #xm list: Name...

SERIOUSLY OT STREAM EDITING IMAGES
Hi All, I have been Googling my head off but cannot find a method to stream edit all the images in a directory and to resize them. I have a large number of images of up to 3GB in size that I want to put in albums on a website, but before I do this I need to resize them to a more realistic configuration. I know how to do this manually with the GIMP but it becomes tedious for more than a few images. Running CentOS 5 as virtualised under XEN as a web server. TIA Chri...

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 install fails -ve memory reported
Hi folks, I'm presently having my second foray into Wine. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on a machine with 3GB memory. I'm having problems installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 and would welcome some guidance. When I run "wine /media/cdrom1/autorun.exe" the install looks promising for a few moments, then an error message saying: "Your computer does not meet the minimum specifications fo...

Easy method to set user-mode virtual memory space in Windows Vista and 7
...s, and I haven't see it discussed in relation to R. To reallocate virtual memory from kernel-mode to user-mode in 32-bit Vista or Windows 7 one can use the increaseuserva boot option value. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa906211.aspx On my 4GB Vista machine, R is now able to use 3GB memory (previously at the default value of 2GB). Here's the method: Open cmd.exe as administrator and type BCDEdit /set IncreaseUserVA <value> where <value> is between 2048 and 3072 (ie 2-3GB), then reboot. Given that you've set the --max-mem-size flag, or used the memory.l...

copying large files over NFS locks up machine on -testing from Thursday
I''ve locked up my dom0 a couple of times this morning copying a 3GB file from local disk to an NFS mount(neither xend nor guests running). I don''t encounter this problem on the stock CentOS 4 kernel. The machine is a PowerEdge 2850 with 2 e1000 cards - the one in use is connected to a PowerConnect 2216 10/100 switch and has negotiated 100Mbit. I''l...

HVM memory upper limit
Hello, I''m trying to create a HVM virtual machine (windows guest) with 3G of memory but this isn''t working. Xen create the domain but nothing happens (the OS don''t start and the cpu time remains 0). Things start to work with 2000MB or below. Is there some kind of upper limit for HVM virtual machines? I''m using a Dell PowerEdge 8250 machine with 16GB of memory.

memory limit?
I've got a simple (32bit) windows application (compiled in Borland c++ builder): int *p; while(1) { p = new int[10000000]; //allocates 40 MB of memory } on Windows XP it crashes after 50 iterations (i.e. 2 GB allocated) but on wine it crashes after 30 iterations (1200 MB allocated) is it impossible to use 2gb of memory in wine? why only 1.2GB is available? I've got wine 0.9.13,

Re: Memory Limitations for WINE 1.1.33 under Mac OS Leopard
I noticed in the loader/main.c that there seems to be some comment that it might be possible to set a build such that 3GB of memory can be allocated for a 32-bit process (through virtual memory mapping). static void check_vmsplit( void *stack ) { if (stack < (void *)0x80000000) { /* if the stack is below 0x80000000, assume we can safely try a munmap there */ if (munmap( (void *)0x80000000,...

Running out of memory when importing SPSS files
...taset from SPSS into R. The SPSS file is in .SAV format and is about 1GB in size. I use read.spss to import the file and get an error saying that I have run out of memory. I am on a MAC OS X 10.5 system with 4GB of RAM. Monitoring the R process tells me that R runs out of memory when reaching about 3GB of RAM so I suppose the remaining 1GB is used up by the OS. Why would a 1GB SPSS file take up more than 3GB of memory in R? Is it perhaps because R is converting each SPSS column to a less memory- efficient data type? In general, what is the best strategy to load large datasets in R? Thanks! P.S...

NFS performance on CentOS 7
I am setting up a file server with CentOS 7. I'm seeing performance which is considerably slower than a similar server running CentOS 6.6. A 3Gb directory can be copied to/from the CentOS 6.6 server in about 50 seconds. The same directory takes about 270 seconds to copy to/from the CentOS 7 system. I see the same performance difference with NFS mounted file systems or using scp, so it doesn't appear to be an NFS issue. The MTU on the...

Upload large files to BLOB
Hi to all. I''m working with saving big files(~200mb) directly into db. I have issue with that. Caused by increased huge use of free RAM(about 3gb of ram and 3gb of swap) on stage when file saves to db: @job.pdf = params[:job][:pdf].read After this is completed there is still some RAM and swap in use. Is there some way to optimize that? p.s. project on rails 3.0.3, uses mysql, running on mogrel. -- You received this message because yo...

...API, but I cannot find that right now. Was rejected because mksquashfs doesn't support streaming output. However I'm fine with this, although perhaps there should be a warning in the longdesc saying that there may be problems with large files. I think this API will break in the region of 3GB. How to verify using more than 2GB of memory
...e has 4Gb of memory under WinXP Pro. Re-reading R for Windows FAQ 2.7 I discovered that I can use editbin to add the "/LARGEADDRESSAWARE" tag in the header without re-compiling, so that is what I did. I also check that it worked using dumpbin. I then edited my Boot.ini file to add the /3GB switch. Then I went to my R.0.0.1 patched that I modified as above and checked memory limit: > memory.limit(NA) [1] 1073741824 This is usual default. > memory.limit(3*1024) NULL > memory.limit(4*1024) Error in memory.size(size) : cannot decrease memory limit It seems to work, since I...
