3com mba 4.30 problem
Hello All,
I seem to be having a problem with PXE under the 3com MBA
once the pxe loads the standard redhat 7.2 lilo prompt and
I type my label which is a4-72 and hit enter, I get:
Loading vmlinuz...
and it stops most of the time. Sometimes it loads and once it gets to
the part of installing linux the screen turns red and I
get "interrupt handler not syncing"
Thanks

pxelinux doesn't start boot some kernels
...start booting at all. It's not
depend on kernel size or version, probably on kernel config or some magic.
But there are kernels which boot anytime and kernles which boot never. How
can i set debug/verbose mode in PXELINUX?
This computer is based on dual pentium pro and PXE is used via 3com
3c905-TX-M,
server is running debian stable with thttpd-hpa and i tried several versions
of pxelinux.
Thanks for your replies.

Slow Transfers from DOS/LANMAN (again)
...chives for discussions pertinent to our situation. My search for
"slow DOS client" produced over 100 hits dating back to the last
millennium, some of which were really about something else. Many of the
rest were descriptions of problems VERY similar to ours, including some
with the 3Com 3C905 card. This question appeared over and over again,
but following the list "threads" for a couple of hours revealed very few
answers or ideas. Either nobody solved the problem, or nobody posted
the solution when they found it.

pxelinux
Hello H. Peter,
we use pxelinux to start linux on desktop pcs. Now we have a problem
with the interaction of dhcp. If the ip address is not fix, we cannot
use the ip address as name for the configfile. A better solution would
be, first to check for the mac and then for the ip address.
Is it possible?
TIA,
Tobias

FreeBSD-9.1 would not boot on pentium3 laptop
Hello!
I have an old Dell Latitude C800 laptop (with Pentium3 CPU in it).
FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE was running fine on it, but I decided to update the
machine to 9.1-STABLE.
Well, neither my own custom kernel, nor even the official 9.1-RELEASE
CD1 would boot... In both cases the boot process runs up to detecting
uhub0, then either hangs forever or shuts off after a short while.
Again, I thought I

Samba writing speed with big blocks
Hello !
I'm having serious problems with Samba's writing speed (both 2.0.5a from
RH 6.1 and 2.0.6 compiled from sources) on a 100Mbit network.
If I write a file with block size 65487 or less, then the writing speed is about
7-8 MB/s - a very nice value, my bow to the Samba team :)
If I change the block size to 65488 or more, then the writing speed falls
down to 3 MB/s, which is not what

pxelinux problems with some Fujitsu-Siemens PCs and a solution
...ed to the list, so please cc me if you want to reach me.
We've found some interesting problem with some Fujitsu-Siemens PCs using
pxelinux:
The PCs are "FS Scenico L" with Athlon XP 1800+ CPUs and Via KT266
chipset. We tried to boot off pxe using pxelinux 2.09/2.10 with several
3com 3c905-* cards. The PCs loaded the kernel but right after
"Uncompressing linux..... Ok, now booting the kernel"
they completely hang. No matter what kernel we used. The network cards
worked in different PCs.
Finally we found the solution: In the bios (PhoenixBIOS Version 4.06)

Regression in SYSLINUX 3.35?
...nux kernel/initrd that
exhibits the same symptoms.
In the case of FreeBSD it loads pxeboot.0, and then spews messages about not
being able to open pxenet0, etc.
After trying on various machines, with various nics, I tried a known
good machine and
it failed as well. The nic's ranged from 3com 3c905/intel pro 100/1000,
realtek onboard,
and a sis onboard. I rolled back to pxelinux.0 v 3.30 which worked, then
moved up to v 3.31
which also works as expected.
I did not try stepping through the betas as I don't have the time at
this moment, although I
may be able to do that tomorrow.

What a Difference a NIC makes
Just to throw this out there for the group. I had a box of OEM SMC NICs and have been using them in all systems I build including * boxes. They seem to work great in Windows machines and even plain old Linux workstations but apparently not all that well when realtime is required. I would get random and usually sparse disconnects and lose registrations with phones and IAX peers. I kept getting

...ecognized, that
samba is very, very, very slow if MS-Access tries to access another

Normally I have tranfers between 3.500 and 4.500 kbytes/sec (writing) and

THe Client is a Athlon K7/1000 with 256MB and a 3C905 NIC running Win2K.

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails - FIXED
Hi,
After trying too long I fixed the problem below by reverting to the old
3c905 NIC. Problem solved but not understood.
I had a similar 3c2000 NIC in another Samba server and it also failed to
copy a large amount (5000+) of files. So that's two completely servers
(hardware and Samba / Slackware version) having the same problem with any
number of different clients. I could...

conflict between Realtek 8139 (client) and 3c2000T (server) NIC's with Samba?
..._break: client failure

I tried setting:
oplocks no

in the smb.conf
but no luck.
(mind you: all other workstations worked just fine, it was just this one el
cheapo barebone). There was also no problem in reaching another Samba server
with an 100 MB 3c905 NIC.
I then tried updating to Samba 3.0.4 but still no luck. Had fun though with
updating the recycle bin etc ...
I then tried using a different PC also with a Realtek 8139 card: same
problem! So I put another NIC in the offending machine and presto:
everything worked just fine.
Can someone expl...

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ok.. Just for the record, I STAND CORRECTED! The problem does
appear to be NT.. The thing that irritated me was that nobody was
interested in giving any backup data! Everyone just wanted to blindly
admit that it must be NT. Ok.. Enuf bitching.. On to the better stuff...
Anyway, David Mansfield and I are trying to narrow down the machine
configurations where this happens.. Currently, we've
