Builtin Nagios types
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I''me using nagios builtin types and I''m very surprised that the
parameter *name* is not available for type nagios_host ?!?
This parameter is required to use inheritance
(http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectinheritance.html) and I
don''t understand why it is not included in all nagios types ?
Maybe someone has an explanation or it is simply a bug?
Regards,
Mathieu

Home-share, winbindd and use-default-domain trouble
Hi folks,
after installing mit kerberos-1.3.3 and the samba.3_0-subversion tree
from yesterday i finally got my ADS-memberserver accessible from
win2k-clients. but now i have a little problem.
The samba server will be the main mailgatway for the site, so i need to

Nagios object inheritance
...tands, there''s no ability to set that "name" variable. You can
set the "host_name" or "contact_name", etc, but you can''t set just a
"name" variable. For reference, this is what I''m talking about:
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectinheritance.html
Any way this can be added to puppet? It''s really a show-stopper since
inheritance is key to having a more easily managed nagios install.
Cheers,
Scott

Problem getting share list from NetApp
We defined a share, sales_cifs_test, on our NetApp server. Note that the
length of the name is longer than 13 characters.
We can see the share with Microsoft Explorer.
We can mount the share from Linux using smbmount.
What we want to do is to get a list of shares from NetApp. The tools
that can do this are the samba programs smbclient and net.
Smbclient will not show names longer than 13

Nagios, getting started
Hi List,
I have noted a number of times, various comments on this list about
Nagios, hence my questions.
just been employed by an ISP and they want to upgrade their fairly
extensive nagios monitoring.
They are mostly an ubuntu lts shop, so 1st question
What advantages does the RH/CentOS world have (if any?) over the ubuntu
LTS world?
They are talking about running the server on a vm, as I

NT4 user can't change password during logon (but XP can)
When a password must be changed during logon (pdbedit <user>
--pwd-must-change-time=0) then this is impossible on NT4 SP6a
machines; we always get this error:
"Unable to change the password on this account (C00000BE). Please
consult your system administrator.".
At that time we get these messages in log.smbd:

Question about Solaris ZFS and ACLs
...in the next Samba version 3.0.24?
I found a discussion on "samba-technical" witch says that in the subversion
tree support for ACLs on ZFS is available.
But my tests on Solaris 10 X86 failed. I tried branch samba-3_0 and
samba-3_0_24 (rev 20796) from subversion with configure option --with-acl-support
with no success. With windows-explorer the security tab just says ".. can't be viewed".
The samba log says:

Nagios installation problem
Hello,
Has anyone managed a successful installation of Nagios using
the RPMForge packages on CentOS 5.5?
It looks like it should have worked, I followed the guides for Fedora
and CentOS here (with appropriate path adjustments):
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/quickstart-fedora.html
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Nagios
The SELinux policies look fine (I tend to ignore instructions to
permanently disable SELinux, if I'm not using SELinux then there's no
reason not to return to Slackware):
# semodule -l | grep nagios
nagios 1.1.0

Registering hostnames with an AD server?
It seems like most people here are asking pretty advanced questions, and
I don't think this is one--but I've read a lot of documentation and I
can't come up with an answer.
We have a 100% Windows-based IT infrastructure here, including using AD
to manage hostname mapping. I know hardly anything about Windows, since
I've been a UNIX person for 20+ years and I've been

Project: writing a vfs module to preverse permissions with MS Office
...non-free time I work for Red Hat
in Farnborough, UK. I'm not really using Samba extensively myself, but
how could one not love a source tree containing torture.c and weird.c?
About that, if anyone can explain what the latter is for, I'd be very
interested... "Add the weird charset in 3_0 and build it by default
for ./configure --enable-developer" in the git repodidn't hit me.

Samba 3.x SVN and OS/2 support.
Hi all Samba OS/2 users. I've just added OS/2 style
extended attribute support into the SAMBA_3_0 subversion
branch code.
This depends on the underlying OS supporting EA's and
(on linux) the filesystem being mounted with the "user_xattr"
mount option and the parameter "ea support = yes" being set
in smb.conf.
Please check out this code and test it - let me know if ther...

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

Problem with Samba on Solaris 2.6
Hi All
I downloaded the binary package of Samba 2.2.2 on Friday from one of the
Samba mirror sites, I think Belgium, and installed it on a Sun E450
running Solaris 2.6.
Today everything has fallen flat on its face. Unfortunately I am on
holiday this week so not able to deal with the problem directly, but via
telephone calls. Apparently what is happening is that smbd is gobbling

i have this strange problem with printing and server naming after upgrading a server from

the upgrade, but i immediately started noticing some peculiarities after restoring the samba

Cisco 7940/7960 SIP functionality questions
Hello,
I'm considering using Asterisk with some type of Cisco phone, and currently
considering either the 7940 or 7960 because of its more-complete functionality
(compared to the 7905).
I'm currently wondering:
Do all the expected functions (transfer, conference, voice mail, message
waiting indicator, etc.) work normally with Asterisk over SIP?
What caveats are known about using
