Help connecting to SOCKS5 proxy server with Open SSH
...#39;s knowledge of SOCKS5 protocol and proxy server connection request. Step 1 in the initial handshake is 'connecting' to server and including a list of authentication methods supported. I need the right commands for this. Lets say I want to connect to SOCKS5 proxy server 72.230.89.105:3816 @ hostname: cpe-72-230-89-105.twcny.res.rr.com. Could I enter in terminal : "ssh -2 cpe-72-230-89-105.twcny.res.rr.com"? When I do, it says ssh: connect to host cpe-72-230-89-105.twcny.res.rr.com port 22: Connection refused. Why is the connection being refused? Why is the connection att...

Limiting files when using rsync
I use the following command to sync the home directory on the two computers, however I would like not to send the "dot" files e.g. ".ssh". Can that be done, and if so, how would I construct the command line? /usr/bin/rsync -av -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/ Many thanks.... Looking for assistance
We have about 5 servers spread out throughout the country: 2 Centos 4.4, 1 Red Hat and 2 windows machines- looking for some good ideas for a back-up solution. Our servers hold a lot of data, but only a small portion of it is crucial on any given day. That crucial portion is always changing (for example, this week the crucial files all relate to November- current and previous projects, and the next

Problem using --fuzzy with --*-dest flags
Hi, I'm trying to get the --fuzzy option to work with --compare-dest with rsync 3.1.0. I'm testing with two files. "C_VOL-b001-i3818.spi" and "C_VOL-b001-i3816.spi" are copies of one another, but I've modified the latter a bit with a hex editor as a test. The modified date is still the same. This works for me (fuzzy is utilized against the 3816 test file): rsync --fuzzy --fuzzy -vv C_VOL-b001-i3818.spi rsync://user at localhost /SHARENAME/dest...

Configuring Multiple Gateways
I'm in need of installing two NICs in a machine that are connected to 2 different public networks and I need both IP addresses accessible from the outside. The IPs are part of two completely different subnets. For example: eth0 IP - 10.10.10.2/30 GW - 10.10.10.1 eth1 IP - 20.20.20.6/30 GW - 20.20.20.5 How can I configure 2 gateways on this server? Thanks! -- Matthew

The equivalent of Ghosting the system
If I were to lose my main hard drive, I would like to have the opportunity to do the same as I can do using Windows: restore from my USB and have a working system. If I were to rsync everything on the main drive (excluding the backup drive, of course and a few other directories) to my USB drive, could I restore using some CD based version of Linux e.g. Knoppix? WINE Compile issue latest development release (1.1.16?)
checking for X... no configure: error: X development files not found. Wine will be built without X support, which probably isn't what you want. You will need to install development packages of Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least. Use the --without-x option if you really want this. Configure failed, aborting install. -_- i keep getting random things when i try to install wine this is the latest.

Installing CentOS over LAN
I want to set up a server that will do network installs of CentOS, perhaps through NFS. Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and with the server. Has anyone done that and published it? Where can I find docs? === Al
