Small Rcmdr issue
...e regular Rcmdr exit menu,
it leaves my xterm with "stty -echo", so that nothing that is typed appears.
If I exit only Rcmdr, and then exit R normally, everything is okay (stty echo).
Other than that minor irritant, everything seems to work just fine.

Just a quick note about my setup. I do not use any gui. As
mentioned I have not had any issues with this machine and it's time
until I upgrade.

W2K3 Server Installation fails with ACPI=1 on xen-3.0.3-rc3 changeset 11732
Hello !
I installed Windows 2003 Server (RC2) sucessfully on xen 3.0.3-rc3
changeset 11732. XEN and DOM0 is 64-bit X86_64 based.
The hardware I use is a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (EE, Energy Efficient
Version) on a simple ASUS M2N-MX Mainboard.
However I wasn''t able to run the installation with ACPI enabled in the
config file for the domain (acpi=1). The setup procedure simply freezes
after loading all the drivers.
Is this a known issue ? I already tried the sam...

Peculiar timing result

[1] 43.10 3.78 48.41 0.00 0.00
(If you run the timing yourself and don't want to see the iteration
output, take the msV=1 out of the control list. I keep it in there so
I can monitor the progress.)
If I time the same model fit on a dual-core Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with
the same version of R, BLAS and Matrix package, the timing ends up
with something like
90 140 235 0 0
I do see that the multithreading is working on a calculation that is
essentially BLAS-bound such as
> mm <- Matrix(rnorm(1e6), nc = 1e3)
> system.time(crossprod(mm))

FC5 32-bit vs 64-bit
Hello,
I am a biostats student and a newbie to R. I have a question about
32-bit vs. 64-bit.
I am running FC5 on a AMD 3800+ with 2GB Ram. With 64-bit, I am
running into some issues the stability of FC5. A friend suggested I
ditch the 64-bit version of FC5 for the 32-bit. I do not currently
have any pressing needs for the capabilities of the 64-bit OS. Before
I reinstall the 32-bit FC5, I want to know the spe...

Counterstrike Source, Gold Status?
...hould run well, but it doesnt. It
almost immediately drops below 30fps if something happens.
Yes it looks almost like the windows version, the ingame font looks different.
But whats the point if you cant win any fight?
Ive used the latest wine on gentoo and ubuntu(fresh install), my hardware:
x2 3800+, 2gb ram, nvidia 8600gt
In windows it breaks down to 70fps which is acceptable (16 players, big fight)
remember - in wine it took "something" to drop below 30 which is nearly
nothing...for example if you respawn with the others its already lagging.
Just in case somebody tries to play i...

Some advice
...system call 20 of these paging extensions,
should that be enough load to cause instability in the system? Our
vendor is claiming it is causing the problems we are having, and I
really find that hard to believe.
Thoughts? Should that be enough to cause major stability problems?
It's an Athlon 3800+ with 512mb ram and a Sangoma card with one PRI.
Total of about 60 extensions (40 phones) on the system but only about
2-4 active calls at any given time with very little transcoding or other
such intensive processes going on.
Thanks,
William

Xen on AM2 nForce 590 (Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe)
While I wait for the Xen 3.0 Test CD to download, has anyone has luck
using an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP
chipset)? The CPU is an AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ AM2 w/ 2GB DDR2 533.
The motherboard mostly works under Gentoo using kernel 2.6.18 with the
"noapic" kernel boot option in my grub.conf file. The only major issue
with the Gentoo kernel configuration is the "nobody cared" IRQ warning.
But after building the Xen kernel, the...

OCZ PC3200 Gold Edition 1GB Memory
EVGA GeForce 6600 PCI-Express x16 Video Card

R on 64-bit Linux machine
Hi,
We are planning to buy a 64-bit Linux machine which will mainly run R.
There was an interesting thread on 64-bits on r-help back in April that
basically confirmed that the 64-bit R is fine as long as the length of
an atomic object is less than 2^31 - 1.
My specific question is on which 64-bit Linux distros (SUSE or RedHat)
and processors R is *known* to build out-of-box and run well. Ease

Questions on cpu frequency scaling AMD vs. Intel
...cted this. It's still unknown, but the frequency is now
calculated correctly and thus frequency scaling works now (it didn't work
when it was miscalculating at 800000). On the other hand, I have an older
low-voltage AMD CPU (probably about 2 years on the market) that is
recognized as X2 3800+ but frequency scaling fails because it
miscalculates the current speed to 800 MHz as well. Is there anything I
can do about that? Where could I check whether this CPU should be
supported in full and frequency scaling working? (I'm not sure, but I
think it may have actually worked when it w...

I thought of connecting it with a serial cable, maybe that's more stable?
