37s style modularization ?
Hello all,
I remember and have lost a link to the blog on hints about 37s
modularization of basecamp, backpack, etc.
Anyone remeber this and can remind me of the link?
Thanks !

How 37s affects Rails
Ok, no one has said it yet so I will.
http://37signals.com/svn/archives2/bezos_expeditions_invests_in_37signals.php?102#comments
How is this going to affect Rails? Or is it?

Disconnects on Director
...am seeing a lot of clients time out on my Director. I'm wondering if
this is "normal" or there is some opportunity to tweak something?
Log line:
imap-login: Info: proxy(user at example.com): disconnecting 1.2.3.4
(Disconnected by client: read(size=433) failed: Connection timed out(37s
idle, in=939, out=3083)): user=<user at example.com>, method=CRAM-MD5,
rip=1.2.3.4, lip=172.0.0.0, TLS: read(size=433) failed: Connection timed
out, session=<P2kq7H91H4dZF/2O>
Any hints? Nothing is logged by the kernel.

Campfire API
I''ve seen:
http://habtm.com/articles/2006/04/14/meet-marshmallow-the-campfire-bot
And it got me to wondering if anyone has heard that 37s will be
releasing an API set for Campfire? Something along the lines where I
can create my own UI, send messages to the chat, etc.

With that, the "cmp" show no differences.
Does this sound like a problem in device-mapper land,
or in how parted interacts with DM?

Possible memory leak problem...
I''m trying to figure out a possible memory leak problem I have in my
application.
I''ve tested both with mongrel and webrick and the problem remains. So
I think it''s not a mongrel problem, but I''m posting here to see if
anybody can help me.
The RAILS application is quite simple, no special plugins ( no
RMagick that has the memory problem ),

Question on hardware for site
For a medium-sized website, does one machine for database server
(either mysql or postgres) and another for the web server (lighttpd)
sound ok? How much traffic could I expect to handle? (I know it
depends on the application, but some rough estimates would be nice)

rsync speed problem when transferring bzip2 files
...The same occurs on a gigabit network too incase you're wondering.
rsync:
r/1/b/l1/l1.root.ext4.dump.bz2
21168128 0% 6.72MB/s 0:56:31
28213248 0% 6.72MB/s 0:56:31
When I use FTP I get ~500MiB/s.
`r/1/b/l1/l1.root.ext4.dump.bz2' at 4816830464 (20%) 483.43M/s eta:37s [Receivi

23362460206 bytes transferred in 46 seconds (487.76M/s)
What is the bottleneck problem here? Why is it so slow?
Other files (non-bzip2) do appear to transfer > 100-200MiB/s.
Using rsync with rsh:

Each posting list chunk has a "last chunk" flag - this exception means
this flag appears not to be set for the final chunk for the term

par(tmag) question
Dear list,
I'm trying to understand the graphical parameters by a systematic exploration
of the par() function (if you are interested by the result it's here
http://pbil.univ-lyon1.fr/R/fichestd/tdr75.pdf, the comments are all in
french but it's pure R code under Sweave).
I have a problem with par(tmag) illustrated by the following code:

Why Macs instead of AMD or Intel ? Just curious
My first computer was a Mac (SE30) but it was also my last so I am not
without appreciation of Apples wonderful aptitude for design. Without
starting a flame-fest why do so many ruby and rails developers use a Mac ?
It seems to be a commonality within the ruby and RoR community. Especially
laptops. The first ruby users group meeting I attended was about 50% Macs
(or so it seemed to me - I
