3510 JBOD ZFS vs 3510 HW RAID
Hi there Is it fair to compare the 2 solutions using Solaris 10 U2 and a commercial database (SAP SD scenario). The cache on the HW raid helps, and the CPU load is less... but the solution costs more and you _might_ not need the performance of the HW RAID. Has anybody with access to these units done a benchmark comparing the performance (and with the pricelist in hand) came to a conclusion.

Configuring a 3510 for ZFS
Hi folks, Myself and a colleague are currently involved in a prototyping exercise to evaluate ZFS against our current filesystem. We are looking at the best way to arrange the disks in a 3510 storage array. We have been testing with the 12 disks on the 3510 exported as "nraid" logical devices. We then configured a single ZFS pool on top of this, using two raid-z arrays. We are getting some OK numbers this way, but it seems a waste of the resources on the 3510 if we are handi...

3510 configuration for ZFS
hi all, I am hoping to move roughly 1TB of maildir format email to ZFS, but I am unsure of what the most appropriate disk configuration on a 3510 would be. based on the desired level of redundancy and usable space, my thought was to create a pool consisting of 2x RAID-Z vdevs (either double parity, or single parity with two hot-spares). using 300GB drives this would give roughly 2.4TB of usable space. I am presuming I will want the RAID mo...

ZFS and UFS performance
We are running Solaris 10 11/06 on a Sun V240 with 2 CPUS and 8 GB of memory. This V240 is attached to a 3510 FC that has 12 x 300 GB disks. The 3510 is configured as HW RAID 5 with 10 disks and 2 spares and it''s exported to the V240 as a single LUN. We create iso images of our product in the following way (high-level): # mkfile 3g /isoimages/myiso # lofiadm -a /isoimages/myiso /dev/lofi/1 # new...

Centos 6.4, bnx2 in promiscuous mode does not see packets
...pe someone can help me, I cannot seem to get a system's ethernet interface to correctly work in promiscuous mode... I have a Centos 6.4 system with 2 bnx2 interfaces on it. I have set up eth1 in promiscuous mode and am sending traffic to it using the port mirroring configuration on a Nortel 3510-24T switch. The switch reports that it is sending a fair amount of traffic to the mirror port. However, within Centos 6.4, I only see broadcast traffic from the switch: [root at host eth1]# ifconfig eth1 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:B9:E2:30:AE UP BROADCAST RUNNING PRO...

lots of small, twisty files that all look the same
...to go reasonably well amazingly enough. Reads are a disaster as we might expect. To complicate things, writes are coming in over NFS. Reads may be local or may be via NFS and may be random. Once written, data is not changed until removed. No Z RAID''ing is used. The storage device is a 3510 FC array with 5+1 RAID5 in hardware. I would like to triage this if possible. Would changing the recordsize to something much smaller like 8k and tuning down vdev_cache to something like 8k be of initial benefit (S10U4)? Any other ideas gratefully accepted. bill This message posted from ope...

rsync mechanics question
Hey All, I've been using rsync (2.6.9) to migrate a 90g message store volume and I'm running into some interesting results. I have two FC storage arrays attached to a Sunfire V280R, running Solaris 8. My 100gig volume is on a Sun StoreEdge 3510, and my new 500gig partition is on an HP EVA. I used the syntax: rsync -a --stats --delete $SRC/$dir/ $DST/$dir At present time, the destination volume is 2.5 times the size of the original volume. My first thought was this may be a drive geometry issue, and I've been working with Sun t...

Transport endpoint is not connected
Hi, I want to share a partition of an external disk between 3 machines. It is located on a Sun StoreTek 3510 and bound (via multipathing) to all 3 machines. One machine (say mach1) is the node I used to create the filesystem and setup /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf. I copied the file to the other 2 machines. All use the same /etc/multipath.conf[1], too. All start /etc/init.d/ocfs2 at boot, all are running with...

Can zpool permanent errors fixed by scrub?
Hi, we had a server that lost connection to fiber attached disk array where data luns were housed, due to 3510 power fault. After connection restored alot of the zpool status had these permanent errors listed as per below. I check the files in question and as far as I could see they were present and ok. I ran a zpool scrub against other zpools and they came back with no errors and the list of permanent erro...

Best External PRI Gateway?
I'm currently looking to interconnect my Asterisk PBX system with the PSTN via a digital PRI/T1. I know a multitude of options exist for internal PCI cards (Digium/Sangoma/Rhino), I was wondering if anyone has any experience or recommendations of external PRI media gateways that support SIP. So far I've found: VegaStream Vega 400 Audiocodes Mediant 2000 MediaTrix 1531 However they are

Changing audio message to text message
Hi all, I know Asterisk is able to send a waiting message (audio) to people trying to call a busy user agent using a queue. However, I'd like to change this audio message to a text message to be able to print it on screen on the other end. Is it possible to configure Asterisk to have text message sent ?
