Help with nouveau driver
Thanks for the help so far, I have already solved the main problem,
but sadly it seems I can't find out the last step. I hope you can help
me there...

x[x$a=="q",,drop=TRUE]
I'm trying to select a subset of a dataframe while
dropping some factors. While the dataset gets smaller
all Factor levels remain and I need to get rid of
them. Strangely enough, I am almost certain that the
same code on the same data worked OK earlier today -
and it is not the first time that I'm not able to
replicate earlier results with this command (I know, I

xorg display problems
Hi all,
Up until today everything has been fine with CentOS on my Toshiba laptop.
I booted into CentOS 4.3 today and Kudzu detected my video card for some
reason. I let it configure it (wish I hadn't now).
I can still get in. X and Gnome work. But the video resolution is
800x640. The LCD is capable of 1024x768. I cannot change it using
Gnome tools or direct editing of

Question on Simple Repeated Loops
Dear R-User,
Appreciate any helps. It looks simple, but I don't have a clue.
Given that I have a dataframe of tree population with three variables:
sp=species ,
d0=initial_size
grow=growth increment from initial size per year
How can I calculate the future growth increment of each tree for the next 3 years.
The following Rscript was written,

Polynomial fitting
I wonder how one in R can fit a 3rd degree polynomial to some data?
Say the data is:
y <- c(15.51, 12.44, 31.5, 21.5, 17.89, 27.09, 15.02, 13.43, 18.18, 11.32)
x <- seq(3.75, 6, 0.25)
And resulting degrees of polynomial are:
5.8007 -91.6339 472.1726 -774.2584
THanks in advance!

NV43: Native resolution not available on Dell 2007FP
I have a Dell 2007FP monitor. NV43 (GeForce 6600) can not use the native
resolution.
1600x1200 is listed under "DDC gathered Modelines" with the rest of the
info, but then is missing from "probed modes".
I have a secondary card, NV4a (GeForce 6200, PCI). It works with this
card. This card does not show "DDC gathered modelines" at all, and
1600x1200 is listed

piecewise linear regression
Hi - I'd like to construct and plot the percents by year in a small data set
(d) that has values between 1988 and 2007. I'd like to have a breakpoint
(buy no discontinuity) at 1996. Is there a better way to do this than in
the code below?

logistic regression enquiry
I am hoping for some advie regarding the following scenario.
I have data from 26 studies that I wanted to analyse using logistic
regression. Given the data was from studies and not individuals I was
unsure how I would perform this in R. When analysed in SPSS, weighting was
used so that each study was included twice. Where "use" occurred, a value
of 1 was assigned and was weighted

Bug in ftable?? (Was: Two-way tables of data, etc)
Further to the discussion between Murray Jorgensen and Brian Ripley,
it seems to me better to choose tabulations that will not come and bite
you. Suppose your data are sligtly irregular, e.g. (for the sake of
the argument):
data( warpbreaks )
warpbreaks$variant <- rep( 1:5, len=54 )
attach( warpbreaks )
tb <- table( wool, tension, variant )
tb
# in this case you would like to see:

regression? no more separate xscreens
Dear Devs,
The support for multiple xscreens (i.e. no xinerama, just separate :0.0
and :0.1 displays) in nouveau is broken.
It would be great if someone could confirm this. It is easily done, by
commenting the "xinerama" option from the xorg.conf file:
https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MultiMonitorDesktop/
With the nvidia proprietary drivers separate xscreens work fine. Could

I've come at this a few different ways on this list and others. But not
really getting a solution. Possibly there is none until some changes
are made upstream.

My aim is to create a large pannable desktop either with use of

Applying function with separate dataframe (calibration file) supplying some inputs
Hello,
I am not entirely sure the subject line captures what I am trying to do, but
hopefully this description of the problem will help folks to see my
challenge and hopefully offer constructive assistance.
I have an experimental setup where I measure the decrease in oxygen in small
vials as an organism, such as an oyster, consumes the oxygen. Each vial is
calibrated before the experiment and
