Performance optimizations for small files and case sensitive-option
...smb server: 90 sec
I tried a lot to make the copy process of many small files faster and
finally came across the case sensitive option of samba:
Copy testdir 70MB with 5500 single files via smb: 180 sec (3min)
using "case sensitive= yes"
This is about 1/3 faster compared to the 300sec without the case
sensitive option. Unfortunately case sensitive files and windows leads
to strange effects that many users will not understand and thus is not a
real option for productive use (think of creating a file hellO.txt and
another hello.txt and a user deleting the only one he sees in explo...

unicorn behind apache with file uploads
Hi,
For one of our apps we switched to unicorn from mongrel.
The unicorn server use to run behind an apache with timeout of 300sec,
as sometime the customer may do a large file upload.
After we made the switch we started getting lots of
Unicorn::ClientShutdown occurred in photos#flash_upload
bytes_read=2762663 (pr some other number)
We were not able to recreate it in our tests, but support was getting
customer emails, that th...

[Bridge] Flushing MAC-tables(?)
Dear list-members!
I am using OpenWRT (www.openwrt.org) on two accesspoints. Within
OpenWRT, the wireless interface and the ethernet interface are bridged
to one interface (br0).
Those two accesspoints are standing quite far from one another. Their
WLAN-cells do not cross each other, meaning I have an area in between
the two accesspoints, where there is no accesspoint of the two
accessible: a

write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe
Hi:
I am running Samba 1.9.17 at SUN Solaris 2.6 and it works well.
After I upgrade Samba 2.0.3 or 2.0.5a, my Excel spreadsheets got
trouble. In the Samba log file I got:
[1999/08/23 10:45:32, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(570)
write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe
Anybody has an idea what is the problem?

Join new DC to domain - advice to upgrade Samba 4.
Hi Rowland, thanks for your email.
The working DC was installed around 2 years ago. It is the reason to stick
in Stretch. But if I can upgrade the working DC to Buster and Samba 4.9.5
without any problem, it is OK to me.
I'm not a Samba expert. How can I verify my database? Can you point me to
some link, tutorial, etc? I have used the samba-tool dbcheck (with and
without --cross-ncs), is
