BSDI 4.0.1 Samba 2.0.4b Performance Problems???
Hello group, I have a BSDI 4.0.1 box running Samba 2.0.4b. The box is a dual 350mhz, 256MB RAM, 2 36Gig Shares, 1 18Gig Share,1 9Gig root, Intel onboard SCSI controller (Symbios?) and is on a fully switched full duplex 100MB fast ethernet network. oplock problem - how to fix?
Hi everyone, Trying to copy a 3.5MB file from a Windows 2000 workstation to a FreeBSD 4.6.2 server running samba-2.2.6.p2. The 3.5MB file is an MS Access file called MoldFE.mdb. After a few seconds of copying the file, a message box pops up on the W2K workstation that states "Cannot copy MoldFE: The specified network name is no longer available". In /var/log/messages, I see this:

indexing mostly-binary documents (.ppt)
Here''s an interesting problem: In my app, we are indexing various types of documents, including microsoft powerpoint. Powerpoint documents are mostly binary, but have a bunch of text (all of the text in the document?) as well. My thinking is that the binary will never get searched for, and the proper text will be indexed and queried as expected, so the indexed binary will never

M-Box benchmark
A friend of mine passed me this[1] cause I'm recommending him Dovecot. My personal experience is very different to the one in that benchmark. I will appreciate similar links from those of you who had benchmarked Dovecot against other IMAP servers. I'm conscious that my personal experience is far to be a objetive comparison. I switched from UW-Imap/Mbox to Dovecot/Maildir a box with 45k

Question about how to reduce samba 3.3.3 install size or why it has been increased dramatically from 3.0.34 to 3.3.3
Hello, can anyone give me some tips why the file size of various samba executables has been increased dramatically from 3.0.34 to 3.3.3 (e.g. smbd 3.5MB -> ~7MB) The reason is that it is necessary for our project to keep the size as small as possible. You can have a look into the makefile here:

Three interfaces firewall - performances problem
Hello, I''ve shorewall running a three interfaces firewall (net, loc, dmz) and I''ve got performances problems. My measured bandwidth from internet is up to 6.8 Mb/s, and I "only" get 3.5Mb/s on my LAN and 5Mb/s on my dmz. I checked with iperf, and all my interfaces (eth0, eth1, eth2) can actually work at 10 Mb/s. I tried disabling all the rules from loc to net

Difficulty w/1.0 and Sonique/Winamp
I am very excited to see the Vorbis 1.0 out. Unfortunately, neither Sonique 1.808a nor Winamp 2.5 is willing to play the resulting files. Only silence. I tried the simple case of 'oggenc track1.wav' and it created the expected track1.ogg, 3.5MB in size with avg. bitrate of 110kbps at default quality 3. These applications worked fine with a much older version of oggenc. Maybe Beta 2

Small file performance
Hi All, We are experiencing painfully slow performance when transferring many small files via Samba. We are currently running Samba 4.5.1, although based on my searches the version doesn't seem to make any difference and this is a long standing problem. The servers, both the primary file server and the testbed, have dual bonded 10Gb NICs and the client network is 1Gb. Using a test

Need help testing a problem
HI All: We are trying to figure out a problem that is occurring with a package, and we need a non-NOAA person with a Windows computer with the latest R to test for us what is failing (but works on Macs and Linux from different sites). Part of the problem is there is an Akamai service in between that we feel may be messing up things. To do this you would need to be willing to: 1. install the

Small file performance
Hi Volker, Thanks for the response. The clients are Win 7, Win 10 and various flavours of Linux, with Samba client versions ranging from 3.6 to 4.5.3. There is no perceptible difference between any of them. Network latency is never above 0.2s and mostly sits at around 0.1s. If that's a problem it is so only for Samba. I did as you suggested with the smb options but that just made it

slow speeds with Windows 10
Hai, My advice would be get a cable tester. Or see if you can loan some cable to test, with what your saying im almost sure you have a bad cable/connector/ethernet port somewhere. And check if you synoligy supports gigabit networks and put in a gigabit swich. Then see if you wifi is still faster then you ethernet. If you model is a 1xx, what happens when you disable https? DSM version is?

slow speeds with Windows 10
I was transferring a file from a (slow) smbd server running on some NAS. The transfer speed is only 1MB/s but the NAS uses 100% CPU. Normally the NAS can handle 60MB/s download (from the NAS). Could it be that the connection uses encryption or something? What could be causing this slow speed? I have internet download speeds over this same connection surpassing 5MB/s. I cannot imagine why

Ah, not time but owner and group are different, and not being changed on the NAS. Is this a CIFS "thing"? -- Best regards, Niamh mailto:niamh at fullbore.co.uk --------------

Problems with Delphi 3 on SAMBA
Hi, We have a Sun running SAMBA and have a problem with a share which contains Delphi 3 source code. Compilations on large projects fail, with the .EXE file stopping generation at ~2Mb, although compilations of the same code on an NT drive are fine. Delphi 1 seems to work fine on the SAMBA drive, creating files of >3.5Mb, so it does not seem to be a file size problem either. Can anyone shed

Small file performance
hai john, what is the preformance when you copy between the windows computers make sure you test hdd-hdd or sdd-sdd disk. to my experience copien lots of small files is always much lower. i get same results as you. small files copy pc-server is around 3.5-4mb/s, 1 large file i get 110-114mb/s. without changing the default in smb.conf. tested on samba 4.5.3 debian 8 and 4.2.14 sernet samba

R in the browser ...
Hi all, I hope you'll forgive me - I don't plan to start using this list as my blog - but given the discussion following my last post I thought people on here might be interested to see some progress. This is a minimal build of R, cross-compiled from C/Fortran to javascript with emscripten - to be clear, nothing is running server-side, this is all running in the browser's JS engine.
