Install Samba4 as File Server
Hi I intend to install Samba 4 as a file server on Debian 10 with apt-get. I understood it, I don't need to install the OS dependencies ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu), because I will use the distribution repository. This way, do I need only packages below? # apt-get install acl attr samba samba-dsdb-modules samba-vfs-modules winbind libpam-winbind libnss-winbind libpam-krb5 krb5-config krb5-user Is there a more updated Samba 4 repository for Debian 10? I th...

List of Dependencies in Samba wiki
Hello. Due that bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1573221) it is needed to install winbind to make domain controller work. But winbind package is absent in dependencies list ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Dependencies#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu) for Debian/Ubuntu. Smbclient is not needed for domain provision, but used for testing of installed domain controller here https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller . I propose to add winbind and smbclient packages to dependencies list for Debian/Ubuntu. Te...

...e used, is 4.3.11-Ubuntu. I have not found any newer package for Ubuntu. We have found no other way to upgrade this, than to download 4.6.3, then make, make install and .configure. We have followed this guide: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu. Anyway, it states "Please note, this will produce a build without a default smb.conf." True ! Then what ? The new install is not found. The path to the new samba installation does not match the one of the samba package in Ubuntu. We have successfully started the new version of Samb...

RNDC errors using SAMBA_INTERNAL_DNS
Hi, I installed the dependencies direct from the Debian/Ubuntu pre-reqs on the samba wiki here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Operating_system_requirements/Dependencies_-_Libraries_and_programs#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu Then just a straight forward configure with no options as per this page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Build_Samba_from_source Everything seems to work it (joining domains, logging in etc however I don't have dhcp set up on the DC yet) just seems odd that it is trying to use bind compon...

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Hello, I have set up a Samba printserver at a school. The server is a standalone server, connected to no domain. I have installed printers with Cups, and uploaded Windows printerdrivers to the shared driver folder. I can add the shared printers in a Windows 10 Pro client, without any hassle. When I try the same in any Win 10 Home edition, I get Windows error messages like "error
