reporting a bug
...//test/Kibbutz /home/wally is a shared mount from another redhat 9.1 system. I am moving files from server X to server feldor. I have a telnet session open on feldor and it is at /test/Kibbutz and I am doing "ls -ahs" to monitor the progress of the synch. Before the synch Kbup_1.aaa is 29Gigabytes in size. /test/Kibbutz/Kbup_1.aaa is 101 Megabytes in size. Just prior to completion the "ls -ahs" gives me 29G Kbup_1.aaa 88M .Kbup_1.aaa.fYAquX. Back on X, stout has "building file list ... done \nKbup_1.aaa\nKbup_1.aaa\n" I do another "ls -ahs" and it gives...

Re: Is there still no easier way to shrink a VM image?
...to about 67G in Disk Administrator leaving the remaining 33G as unallocated. Afterward I tried a web reference technique and used Sysinternals SDelete to zero the free space then used 'qemu-img convert -O qcow2 <original.qcow2> <new.qcow2>' to produce a physical image size of 29G. qemu-img info reports on "new.qcow2": file format: qcow2 virtual size: 100G (107374182400 bytes) disk size: 29G cluster_size: 65536 Format specific information: compat: 1.1 lazy refcounts: false The issue is that the virtual size is still 100G. I don't have the physica...

what am I doing wrong
I am seeing some rather strange behavior with synch of 2 directories on the same system using 2.6.2. The older file is the image of a full backup and is 29Gig in size. The new image is a slice of an incremental backup and is 101Meg in size. the command line is: time /home/wally/rsync/rsync-2.6.2 -av --rsh=rsh --backup --stats --block-size=<xxx> --write-batch=kbup1aaa /test/Kibbutz/Kbup_1.aaa /test/Kibbutz/work What I am observing in /test/Kibb...

qemu-img snapshots with backing stores?
...ply point your qemu at the snapshot after it's creation, and you're golden. When attempting this with libvirt, though, it fails. I created a snapshot using the above tutorial. the resulting file is disk.0, and a qmeu-img info on it returns: image: disk.0 file format: qcow2 virtual size: 29G (31457280000 bytes) disk size: 140K cluster_size: 65536 backing file: /var/lib/one/public/lin_client_current.qcow2 (actual path: /var/lib/one/public/lin_client_current.qcow2) So that all looks groovy, right? very large difference between df and du (10 GB, hard to believe)

cp -al issues
...he bulk of the 37GB, should this happen? Shouldn't /Current always have the actual copy (37Gb)? Here is the results of du from the last two days. The first day it seems normal because there was about 1.4Gb of changes, but on the second day 4-8-2004 now has changed to 9.1Gb and Current is only 29Gb?? Strange. Does this mean that 4-8-2004 is no longer properly hard-linked to /Current? Would there be any difference using --link-destination in rsync and not using cp at all?
