Searching an Scsi Controller for CentOS 5
Hello,
does CentOs 5 supports an Adaptec AHA-2940W/2940UW scsi controller
(pci)? Is this controller maybe supported by the aic7xxx driver?
I want to install CentOS 5 on my desktop pc but the currently installed
pci scsi controller for my scanners (drivers: 2x tmscsim, 1x advansys)
are not supported by CentOS. So I am searching for something else.
Thanks...

Linux DoS attack through autoprobing

A very simple exploit is

A suggested fix is to remove or chmod 0 device nodes for hardware

ISOLinux problem--Multiple CD-ROM's
Currently, I have 2 CD-ROM's, 1 IDE, 1 SCSI. ISOLinux works great on the IDE
but fails out on the SCSI. I have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW with the BIOS loading
the drive. Are you aware of a problem with this controller?

very slow imap opens in pine after moving maildirs to new drive
...as when dovecot talks to my old imap dir (I've tested this),
closing the session takes no more than 10 seconds.
server is Mandrake 9.1, 2.4.21-0.13mdkenterprise, P4 2.6GHz, 1G RAM 9G
U2W SCSI system disk, 9G U2W SCSI (and big*ss IDE drive for /users). Each
of the scsi drives is on its own aha-2940UW controller.
Filesystem on old imap location (/var filesystem) is reiserfs, same as
that on new dedicated disk.
Thanks much,
Dave

BSDI 4.0.1 Samba 2.0.4b Performance Problems???

256MB RAM, 2 36Gig Shares, 1 18Gig Share,1 9Gig root, Intel onboard SCSI
controller (Symbios?) and is on a fully switched full duplex 100MB fast

The NT box is running 4.0 SP3, dual 400mhz, 256MB RAM, 2 4Gig Seagate SCSI

We have an NT Server copying >200,000 tiny files (4GB total) to one of the
36 Gig shares. Its been running for 22 hours now and has copied about
80,000 of the files (1.4GBish). I am not sure where the bottleneck is.

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with
CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the
fact that the raid is transparent to the OS.
Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this
sort of usage?
From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands:

The hardware is more reliable than comparable Intel hardware would be

our servers here that is a dual 400MHz PII with those drives and came up

comparable numbers (using UnixBench 4.1, which benchmarks quite a few
areas)). Those U30s are built like tanks; they also take approximately t...

No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?
