SGID bit not obeyed in 4.3.9?
...the upgrade, the behavior is broken - now the GID ownership goes to the default group membership coming from winbind/AD. Group 9997 does not exist in AD, and never has, which I suspect is why this was originally setup this way. I have tried to override this at the share level with: create mask = 2777 force create mode = 2660 directory mask = 2777 force directory mode = 2770 but that seems to have absolutely no effect. I'm a bit surprised at that, since I found several references indicating that this has worked in the past to solve exactly the problem I have. I also tried "force grou...

smbmount - file permissions on RH7
...to the win98 machine, I always get an error saying I don't have permission to do this. The file gets copied, though. Here's what I have done: I have a group called "smb". I have a user called "smbuser". My user account is a member of the smb group. I have tried chmod 2777 /mnt/MtAthos-c and just plain 777. Neither makes any difference. The directory is set uid=1001, gid=1001 (smbuser and smb) I have tried mounting the drive every way imaginable. Here are just a couple of the lines I've tried in my fstab: \\MtAthos\MtAthos-MDoc /mnt/MtAthos-MDoc smbfs o,gue...

Windows file directory creation permission confusion
...ask = 0660 I don't have any create/mask statements in the share as they do not seem to make a difference. I am using a single large file share with sticky gid bit set (2774) Goal: files created should have user as owner and sambashare as group with 774 permissions. Folders are created with 2777 and set GID Files created with 0766 When I started working on this folders were getting created with 2740. On the server I chmod g+rw on the share and now folders are created with 2777. (this doesn't make sense to me) With every config change I reload the config file with (Ubuntu 16.04 lts...

Setting domain group ownership on files
...int where I am ready to push the project live. I have been playing with a domain member server that uses winbindd. I have created a share in /tmp called public to see what happens with user and group permissions. I created the directory as follows: mkdir /tmp/public; chgrp users /tmp/public; chmod 2777 /tmp/public. Then from a Windows XP work station I logged in as a domain user, connected to the share and created a folder. When I list the folder from the shell on the server I see: root at dev2:/etc/samba# ls -ltr /tmp/public/ total 4 drwxrwxr-x 2 DOM\djohn users 4096 2011-06-21 11:44 d_john Th...
