Need some help
...d on eth0 I''ve the dsl connection (1.2 Mbit / 256 kbit) I need to limit the bandwith towards lan and I''ve thought at HTB and tcng. I write the script belove. I want limit the p2p and ftp (ssh and irc) connection at 15 kBps (128 kbps) and the other type of traffic at 32 kBps (256kbps). Is the script right? Moreover I want understand better how htb work: I can shape the traffic router->lan but I can''t shape traffic lan->router, is it right? In this way I can limit the bandwidht towards lan, but I have the bandwith towards router always full. Thanks P.S.: sor...

Few question on HTB
Dear All, Sorry to trouble again..... After go through www.lartc.org I have implemented the HTB instead of CBQ for the same scenario. throtling bandwidth
Hi, My branch office as got a 256Kbps b/w from their service provider at a very very high rate per Mb. They don''t require 256Kbps at all but the ISP does not offer anything low. Can we restrict the bandwith to say 64Kbps nothing fancy? How do I go about it? With warm regards, -Payal

ZtDummy vs Hardware
I was wondering what could be pros and cons of ztdummy vs proper timer device (i.e. X100P). I am going to set up an asterisk server in europe (to do trunking, to save bandwith) and I was wondering if it'll be OK to get it going with ztdummy. Furthermore, I have only a 1024/256kbps PPPOE DSL link and I need to squeeze 12 channels through, I was wondering which codec would be suitable for this? Is g.729a going to be indispensable or can I get away with something like GSM? Cheers, Jean-Michel.

An Analysis of the c't Codec Test

This is very true. I can easily hear MP3 distortion up to about 256kbps on most music. I've heard some songs where I can tell at 256kbps. I have never heard compression artifacts from Ogg Vorbis. Unfortunately, I'm scared that one day I'll be able to, and my entire CD collection, encoded at the economical q=3.0 or less will become sick sounding. So I kin...

GXP-2000 Audio Quality
I have a client with about 16 GXP-2000. They complain that the audio quality is terrible after 2 or 3 simultaneous conversations. They are behind DSL 1.5Mbps down and 256Kbps up. Because they are using G711.u codec, I know they upstream bandwidth is the limiting factor and they most likely won't be able to have more than 3 simultaneous conversations, and if they're surfing the net and/or checking email, things will only get worse. So, I purchased some g...

I hate myself for asking this, but...
I'm going to encode ~2000 CDs soon. All genres, but 90% of it has distorted guitars... Everything from punkrock to metal to industrial to goth to synthpop to classical to techno to whatever... I've heard that RC2 has some hearable artifacts, even in 192/256 kbps... There have been quite a few "bugreports" since RC2 with people sending samples that even I can differ from the

is this scenario possible ???
hello . i have no problem shaping incoming traffic from WAN how do i shape outgoing traffic to WAN depending on the speed limit of each subnet .... ex: 10.10.6.0 --> 512kbps (DOWNLOAD / UPLOAD) 10.10.5.0 --> 256kbps (DOWNLOAD / UPLOAD) do i have to used forward handle, and used iptables -s 10.10.6.0/24 -d WAN -j MARK --set-mark 101 and used iptables -s 10.10.5.0/24 -d WAN -j MARK --set-mark 102 what do i really have to use? prerouting or postrouting. do i really need to use imq device on this one ?...

How to define class type hierarchy of speeds?
Hi I''m very very new to tc iproute etc and have read the LARTC howto. What I want to do is create some "master" classes of bandwidth limit and below that per ip address which "inherits" from this master class. Example: one queue for 128Kbps other queue for 256Kbps What I want now is that for example in "class" 128Kbps the ip 10.0.0.5, 10.0.0.8 etc. goes BUT every ip adress will have 128Kbps. The same for 256Kbps. 128Kbps |_ 10.0.0.5 |_ 10.0.0.8 256Kbpss |_ 10.0.0.6 |_ 10.0.0.7 Is there now way to do that without create for any ip addres...

Legality Issue & Relaying
...of your revenue, seeing as I plan to host no adverts or indeed any commercial aspect I hope to get a licence without actually paying anything. (I've sent them an inoccous email so we'll see what they say) Relaying: Unless you get a business connection in the UK standard upload is generally 256Kbps regardless of your download rate (hence the Asynchronous bit in ADSL). I plan to use my brother's and parents internet connections at their respective houses as relays for the stream to enable more bandwidth for my listeners to enjoy a smoother stream. A question regarding this, can you use a s...

Traffic Priority by IP address..
Hi, I have a PC that acts as a VoIP gateway using an internet telephony provider to make phone calls.. Data between me and the provider will always be from one IP address on my internal network to the provider.. I have a 1Mbps/256Kbps ADSL line and the voice stream is highly compressed requireing only 30Kbps of bandwidth.. The problem is that when my Mozilla Mail client polls for mail or someone else on the network (only 3 PC''s) opens a web page it causes the voice to stutter similar to a bad cell phone signal if th...

wrr question
...this simple example. Incoming internet connection of 1mbps. Shared between up to 25 users simultaneously. I know that WRR can fairly distribute the traffic amongst the currently connected clients at any specific time. I''d like to know how can I restrict any client from getting more than 256kbps (or 25%) of the total link speed, even when they are the only users. Kind regards -- Kenneth Kalmer kenneth.kalmer@gmail.com http://opensourcery.blogspot.com

No subject
switch between speech and music encoding rather quickly. I wanted to try that for a CD track that has a vocal (talk) introduction = followed by music (just two instruments). Using foobar2000 with some custom setup for Opus, I tried VBR encoding = with a 256kbps setting (opus-tools-0.1.9-win32). My expectation was that = the bitrate would be significantly lower than 256kbps while speech is = encoded, while it would go up for the music part. However during playback = I could not see a significant difference in foobar's (version 1.3.2 before = you ask) d...

"EMI takes locks off music tracks"
EMI has introduced a second tier price for DRM free tracks at higher quality (256kbps vs 128), which Apple will be distributing soon. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6516189.stm It's obviously being introduced in a marketing-friendly way, but this is an interesting move as it also means Apple will be moving away from proprietary format lock- in (very slightly). -- imal...

[HTB] about SCHED_JSCALE value
at 1 Jul 2005, I request help about HTB setting because my HTB setting did not work. After days, I found the source code bug lead to problem. My linux kernel is v2.4.17 port for mips by boardcom. boardcom set HZ to 200 in linux/include/asm-mips/param.h. In linux/include/net/pkt_sched.h, SCHED_JSCALE is set to 0 according to HZ=200. When I set SCHED_JSCALE to 13, the problem is solved. Shun

Selective Masquerading
HI guys: I have a DSL @ 1mb, and another one @ 256kbps I''ve been reading countless hours regarding the split access / load balancing issue, but for some strange reason, things don''t work the way they should. Sometimes the split access works, other times a DSL begins an ARP flood pointing all the ARP replies to the other DSL, and...
