Out of memory? We?ve definitely seen similar symptoms (it?s been a while, so I?m not sure they were identical) for compute nodes running large memory jobs. Noam

disk io in guests causes soft lockups in guests and host processes
Hi, I have a strange phenomenon that I cannot readily explain so I wonder if anyone here can shed a light on this. The host system is a Dell r815 with 64 cores and 256G ram and has centos 6 installed. The five guests are also running centos 6 and are running as a hadoop cluster. The problem is that I see disk-io spikes in the vm's which then cause soft lockups in the guest but I also see hanging processes on the host as if the entire machine locks up for 3...

understanding zfs/thunoer "bottlenecks"?
Currently I''m trying to figure out the best zfs layout for a thumper wrt. to read AND write performance. I did some simple mkfile 512G tests and found out, that per average ~ 500 MB/s seems to be the maximum on can reach (tried initial default setup, all 46 HDDs as R0, etc.). According to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/ArchitectureWP_062806.pdf I would

Help:Can libvirt restore several xen snapshots more faster at same time?
Dear libvirt expert, we find a blocker issue in our project. Would you please offer us some feedback? Our project have a requirement: restore as much as xen snapshot at same time. we have done the following test(our environment is cpu E52620, 256G memory, SSD hard disk. The xen snapshot is Win7 OS with 1G memory): 1) Save 40 xen snapshots to disk, then restore these snapshot at sametime, we found the restore speed is too slow, and the bottleneck is the IO speed. 2) we save all the 40 xen snapshot to ramdisk, then we got a good p...

/etc/security/limits.conf : rss
Hello, I run CentOS 5.6 on a Dell PowerEdge R815 with 256 GB of RAM. We use Sun Grid Engine to schedule jobs on this node. I want to limit the memory usage about 150 GB per process. So i use the /etc/security/limits.conf configuration file. I test this configuration with some tools with a lower GB limit (about 2 or 4 GB), and it works ! But, at least one process (oases - a bioinformatics

CentOS 5.4 x86_64 only detects 32GB RAM while Fedora x86_64 correctly lists 128GB
Hi, We have a new 24-core Dell PowerEdge R905 server with 128GB's RAM. The 64 bits version of Fedora 12 lists the correct amount of 128GB, CentOS only finds 32GB (and so does Scientific Linux). I would much prefer to use CentOS (most of the software we use is specifically designed for CentOS). Does anyone know what is causing this/how to fix it? Many Thanks, Diederick -------------- next

Performance issues with iSCSI under Linux
Hi!We''re trying to pinpoint our performance issues and we could use all the help to community can provide. We''re running the latest version of Nexenta on a pretty powerful machine (4x Xeon 7550, 256GB RAM, 12x 100GB Samsung SSDs for the cache, 50GB Samsung SSD for the ZIL, 10GbE on a dedicated switch, 11x pairs of 15K HDDs for the pool). We''re connecting a single Linux box to it using iSCSI and using "top" we see it spent all its time in iowait. Using "zpool iostat&quo...

[git patches] ocfs2 fixes
Hi Linus, Here are some 2.6.20 fixes for ocfs2. The patch by Zhen Wei isn't really a fix, but a very small amount of support for a feature which is mostly implemented in ocfs2-tools. Considering it's just a single attribute export via configfs, I'd say it's pretty safe to merge. Please pull from 'upstream-linus' branch of

[git patches] Ocfs2 patches for merge window, batch 2/3
Hi, This is the second batch of Ocfs2 patches intended for the merge window. The 1st batch were sent out previously: http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/12/19/280 The bulk of this set is comprised of Jan Kara's patches to add quota support to Ocfs2. Many of the quota patches are to generic code, which I carried to make merging of the Ocfs2 support easier. All of the non-ocfs2 patches should have
