Recommended Network Latency
I'm planning on setting up some remote agents and before doing so, I
did some simple PING tests to measure latency. The average latency I
got was 250ms. Does anyone have experience in terms of quality of
calls when there is such high latency? Can anyone comment?
Thanks,
Waldo

profile provider: is it me doing stupid things?
...preciate another (expert) look upon this.
The goal we try to achieve is trying to get insight if there is a bursty nature in the time slot when system calls are done. Following DTrace snippet is tried:
dtrace -q -p 3173 -n ''syscall::read:entry { @[probefunc] = count(); } profile:::tick-250ms { printa("%6s %@6d\n", @); printf("\n"); clear(@); }''
This to chop up a one second interval into four different equal sized 250 millsec slots. Counting the number of read and write syscalls that fall in each slot.
This one is run against a process that reads a single...

PRI echo issues: solvable?
...stem:
- Asterisk 1.2.0-beta1
- TE110P on a PRI
- TDM04 and TDM40, but these are unrelated to current echo issues
- Fedora core 3
- Echo canceller KB1
Most calls have minimal, acceptable echo levels. But occasionally, we
get a call where the echo is delayed by a substantial amount (sometimes
around 250ms), and sounds as loud as the remote party.
One example: when one number (local to the same CO as our PRI) calls us,
the echo on our end is unbearably bad. When we call them, No Problem.
Am I right in guessing that we're unlikely to solve this in a
system-wide manner on our end, and at best we&...

A few questions about libvorbis from a newbie
...compressed size of every ogg vorbis file I have used. What is a more
robust way of getting the full uncompressed file size?
2. How do I read a certain amount of ms of data? For example, I have been
using sizeUncompressed / seconds / 4 (using the above method to get
sizeUncompressed) to try and get 250ms worth of data, but I'm not sure it
is doing what I think it does.
3. How do I determine the sample size of a file? For example, how do I know
if I should reading 16 bit or 8 bit samples?
Thanks for your time.

It depends on absolute RTT to the target. If you stay local ("< 50ms"),
the 250ms offset should reliably avoid DNIS logs. If you happen to
connect to Australia from Europe ("200+ms RTT") the second SYN might
go out before the first handshake is done... but that should be
a somewhat rare occurrence.

Decoding multiple frames
Hi all,
I'm using speex through my own python wrapper based on ctypes. In my application I'm forced to process relatively large chunks of audio data (250ms). I was able to supply sufficiently large buffer to the SpeexBits structure and then encode using (code snippet)
_speex.speex_bits_reset(byref(self.bits))
for i in range(0, len - self.frameSize, self.frameSize):
_speex.speex_encode_int( ... )
N2 = _speex.speex_...

1.2.3pre2 works great on Solaris 2.7 except man
Right out of the box (after I made Damien's LDFLAGS fix in configure) using
gcc-2.95.2. The only problem I have now is the man pages. I still can't
read them using Solaris nroff, and when I tried to build with
--with-catman=cat, I got the following during a make install:
/rtr/bin/install -c -m 644 ssh.[01].out /usr/local/man/cat1/ssh.1
Try `/rtr/bin/install --help' for more

Asterisk Echo problems, Urgent, please help,
Hi all,
I hope someone can help, as I have an urgent problem.
I've got a production Asterisk server thats been deployed, but we are seeing
a strange voice echo problem. There is about a 250ms echo for the users in
the office, and they are hearing their own voice back at them.
I'm running the CVS Head code, on RH9.0. This is on a P4 box with 2gb of
memory. The client SIP phones are Polycom Soundpoint IP600's, WiFi ZyXel
2000w handsets, and X-Lite (free) PC clients. All see th...

[Bug 724] New: Iptables doesn't delete rules matching if target is RATEEST - patch attached
...ReportedBy: massimo at mmmm.it
Estimated Hours: 0.0
In latest version of iptables (1.4.11.1) I can't delete a rule by matching it
if the target of the rule is RATEEST.
Copy-paste from terminal:
#iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -j RATEEST --rateest-name somename
--rateest-interval 250ms --rateest-ewmalog 4s
#iptables -t mangle -D PREROUTING -i eth0 -j RATEEST --rateest-name somename
--rateest-interval 250ms --rateest-ewmalog 4s
iptables: No chain/target/match by that name.
I saw in comments of the kernel code that the last part of the struct
xt_rateest_target_info is used only b...
