OT: Gigabit Rated Eth Cables - Cat 6 v. Gigatrue
Hi, In populating our racks with several gigbit switches over the next few days, i'm wondering this: Is it over-engineering to seek out 550mhz rated cables over the typical Cat 6 250mhz rated cables? I've been advised (if you can a salesperson's words advice, heh.) that 250mhz is enough to handle traffic up to 10GB's. Should I just be happy with Cat6 for my GB switches or is is worth getting more into the details and seeking 550mhz-rated cable? Just curious what you...

How Many Calls On This Config
We have a test server that runs a single PIII 500MHz(256MB RAM) under Slackware, and we can get 12 SIP -> Zap calls running on it just fine. Over that and we have seen intermittant errors like call quality and very high load spikes. You should be able to get at least 24 SIP -> Zap on that setup. Post on the list when you do max it out. It's always good to see capacity specs. MATT---

samba 2.0.6 on Irix 6.5.6m core dump problem (internal error)
Samba: binary kit from samba.org Samba version: 2.0.6 computer: SGI indigo2 with a 250MHz 4400 CPU, 64MB RAM, Irix 6.5.6m me: tarjei.jensen@kvaerner.com It looks like every time smbd spawns, the child process seems to die a horrible death and leave a core file. As a result I am unable to use any netbios services on the machine. The core file which I have examined says that the process...

File copy speed differences... writing to SAMBA is faster than reading from it??!
...ost 1MB/sec. Doesn't matter where the file lives, whether or not it's in cache (on the Linux box), or what. The network cards in both are 3Com's PCI 10/100BaseTX cards (3c905), both machines are AMD-K6-200 or better (the Linux box has the slower CPU, being 200Mhz, the NT box has a 250Mhz AMD-K6-233 overclocked at 83Mhz x 3 -- naturally of course, the Linux box seems to do everything faster despite the "handicap"). Anyhow... it's very strange. Even the old Macintoshes on my LAN outcopy NT (~700KB/sec thru netatalk). I've enclosed some packet sniffer logs, wh...
