Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone could clarify the details. I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives? I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the whole pool or just when accessing that disk? Thanks for your input. - Chris

Problem selecting installation drive : 5.2
When doing the 5.2 installation the ONLY drive option provided is mapper/nvidia_cbjcdhfe (250G) My system has 2 SATA - 250G drives and I want to use them in a RAID/LVM configuration. My question: How do I get the installer to let me use DiskDruid to create RAID1 arrays and then use LVM for the mount points? What I've done so far: I've verified that both drives are recogniz...

Asymmetric encryption for very large tar file
Hello CentOS list, I have a requirement that I need to use encryption technology to encrypt very large tar file on a daily basis. The tar file is over 250G size and those are data backup. Every night the server generated a 250G data backup and it?s tar?ed into one tarball file. I want to encrypt this big tarball file. So far I have tried two technologies with no success. 1) generating RSA 2048 public/private key pair via ?openssl req -x509 -nodes -new...

Write performance with 3ware 9550
I have two identical servers. The only difference is that the first one has Maxtor 250G drives and the second one has Seagate 320G drives. OS: CentOS-4.4 (fully patched) CPU: dual Opteron 280 Memory: 16GB Raid card: 3ware 9550Sx-8LP Raid volume: 4-disk Raid 5 with NCQ and Write Cache enabled On the first server I have decent performance. New installation woes
I've just installed CentOS 5.2 for the x86_64 on a SuperMicro X6DA8-G board with two 250g SATA drives configured in the bios as a raid 1 array. After getting the base installed, I've tried to yum update the system and I wind up with these errors.... --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient.so.14(libmysqlclient_14)(64bit) is needed by package...

DegradedArray message
Thanks for all the responses. A little more digging revealed: md0 is made up of two 250G disks on which the OS and a very large /var partions resides for a number of virtual machines. md1 is made up of two 2T disks on which /home resides. Challenge is that disk 0 of md0 is the problem and it has a 524M /boot partition outside of the raid partition. My plan is to back up /home (md1)...

[LLVMdev] Assuring ARM code quality in LLVM
Hi all, I was recently investigating the build bot infrastructure and noticed that the arm-linux target is failing for quite a long time. I believe that it means ARM code is not executed all that often in LLVM tests, is that correct? We were wondering what kind of support we could give to make sure ARM code is correct and don't regress, specially before releases (I know it's a bit late

df & du - that old chestnut
...e filesystem in question is used exclusively for Oracle RMAN backups. A df -h shows the following: [root at imsthdb07 ~]# df -h /data/orabackup Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/eva_mpio_myserver07_08_oracle_bkup0 250G 198G 53G 79% /data/orabackup While a du -sh shows that 62G is used I read Sunil Mushran's article on the reported differences between df & du and that sort of makes sense (maybe I'm missing something). The filesystem was created with a Blocksize and Clustersize of 4Kb and is m...

--delete not working - due to 200+G of files?
...ll of the rsync pages say that "rsync -a --delete src dest" will do a full mirror but it just isn't so for us. I've only found one Google item similar: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/rsync-doesnt-seem-to-delete-599985/ We have around 9200 directories in 250G in /home on a Sun 4500 with Solaris 8 and rsync 2.6.5 - which we are trying to mirror on Sun and Linux. Around 1,200 directories were removed from /home but they were not removed from the mirrors after rsync ran. We have tried: 1) rsync, via rsh, to a second similar machine rsync -az -e rsh --d...
