EXT3 with 2.2.20 - Is it stable enough for a production server th at is used 24X7?
Hello All, I have a production server that is running 2.2.20. This server *has* to be up 24X7 - what I'm wondering is: 1) Is ext3 on 2.2.20 rock stable? Or, would you recommend that I just stay with ext2? 2) I have looked far and wide for a the ext3 patch for 2.2.20 - where can I find it? 3) Were are the e2fsprogs that are appropriate to run with the 2.2.X kernel series? Thank...

UPS for Asterisk
...wn time on all of these production machines is bad, these are all systems that have no counter part in the legacy world, and that we all agree may have some downtime along the road. On the other hand, telephony down time is unacceptable. PBXs have a counter part. Plain old PBXs are expected to run 24x7. real 24x7, with uptimes of 99.999. And if you think about it, they actually do. So people will expect your asterisk installation to do the same. Besides, when a mail server goes down for ten minutes, when it comes back up you still get your mail. This is not true for your PBX. Our asterisk inst...

Grandstream surveillance devices
...rketing :) ), and they have some new device that is meant to be a surveillance camera with audio, but the interface is POE and SIP! A cool idea. Anyone playing with this toy yet? I am trying to wrap my head around how asterisk might fit with the model of this camera being "recorded" 24x7 with a continuous video/audio stream. Does asterisk even support recording video streams? Cheers, j

best practice for lustre clustre startup
Hello, I have recently installed a lustre cluster which is in a test phase now but will potentially be in 24x7 production if its accepted. I would like input from the list on what the recommendations/best practices are for configuration of a lustre cluster startup. Is it advisable to have lustre on the various server pieces (mgs/mdt/oss''s) start automatically? If not why not? If you try to...

Recommended Configuration Control Software?
We have several dozen production Linux servers and I would like to have better control over what files are changed, by whom, when they were changed, etc. Because these are all production servers that are in use 24x7, we do not have the luxury of simply doing a clean build, taking md5sums of each file, and then doing fresh installations. I need a system that can take in-place snapshots of each server's configuration files, store them in some kind of database or text file, and notify me whenever something c...

Puppet + HAProxy
Hello, The Puppet footprint within my company is steadily growing, We took the basic steps to make it more robust (passenger + apache) but in order to meet the needs of a 24x7 shop I need redundancy. I''ve read the Reductive Labs WIKI about redundancy (http://reductivelabs.com/ trac/puppet/wiki/Recipes/HighAvailability) but I was wondering if anyone has experiences (good or bad) using HAProxy to achieve HA on the puppetmaster side. Thanks, Roberto. --~--~------...

expected system load from DTrace scripts/probes
Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the type of load common DTrace scripts would cause on a system if run 24x7? I know "common DTrace scripts" and their underlining probe calls a vague statement. So for the lack of a common and establish set of scripts in the OS, I''ll use the most popular right for my question...the DTraceToolkit from Brendan Gregg. Which by the way are works of ar...

Better way of streaming radio than "musiconhold" for Asterisk 17.4 ?
...-af volume=5,resample=8000,channels=1,format=alaw extensions.conf exten => radio,1,Verbose(1, Entered radio context) same => n,Set(VOLUME(TX)=1) same => n,WaitExten(27006,m(radio)) same => n,Goto(#,1) It kind of works, but two problems here: It's pulling data 24x7, giving the radio host artificial stats - all rather needless as maybe one or two people might listen for 10 mins each in a day. And even though mplayer seems to stay up and running all the time, sometimes Asterisk will stop listening on that pipe and everything needs a restart (random, less than o...

Digium TDM400P in Soekris net5501-70?
Hello - I've been running Asterisk (quite happily!) for several years now using a Digium TDM400P card in an old Linux box (P4 1.6 w/ 256MB RAM). I'm also running another old PC running m0n0wall as a firewall. Between these two boxes, that run 24x7, I'm drawing a lot more power than needed and hoping to make a dent in my monthly electric bill by consolidating the two into a single box with efficient power supply, low power processor, and no spinning HD platters. Main question is whether anyone knows if the Digium TDM400P should be compat...

Systemd and VirtualBox
...fered > everything I needed with less hassle. > > I take it you've considered switching? > Considered, very briefly. I have had great success and stability with running VirtualBox on both CentOS 5 & 6 for the few Windoze apps that my clients need to run and have up on a server 24x7. The set ups I am using have been running reliably for over 8 years and remote manged with zero issues - HUGE thanks to the CentOS team for an awesome OS system delivery Thus, I have simply installed the latest VirtualBox on CentOS 7 and gone from there. I was aware that systemd existed and deli...

Nightly Linux build?
Hey guys, I''m really sorry to be so out of touch these days. We just hired two new programmers at work so I''m busy bringing them up to speed...in time for them to help us get a major release out at the end of the year. So my personal goals for wxruby participation at the moment are: 1. Respond to any support requests as quickly as possible 2. Respond to any questions from you

...> the ''noapic'' > options on both the PowerEdge models I''ve tried.. I''ll try to > build up a Xen vs. non-Xen kernel tomorrow or Tuesday and > grab a diff for you. Which PE models are they? We have quite a few different Dell PowerEdge models running 24x7 in the test lab, and don''t see any problems. (I know that we have PE1850/2650/2850 and some 4 socket boxes too).
