saving objects with embedded environments
...he below example, however, I have found that depending on whether or not I run 'lm' within another function or not, the entire function environment is saved off with the file. So, even while object.size and all.equal report that both 'lm's are equal and of small size, one saves as a 24MB file and the other as 646 bytes. These seems to be because in the first example the function environment is saved in attr(x1$terms, ".Environment") and takes up all 24MB of space. Anyway, I think this is a bug, or if nothing else very undesirable (that an object reported to be 0.5kb take...

dovecot.index.cache 1/3rd of INBOX size
I've noticed that my dovecot.index.cache file has got very large (24MB, which is more than 1/3 of my INBOX size). I've tried deleting (well, renaming) the dovecot.index.* files, and re-opening my INBOX, and the new dovecot.index.cache is only 90KB so far. I'm using dovecot-1.0-stable and mbox format. My mail_cache_fields and mail_never_cache_fields are se...

CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!
After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ... The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks - /var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*. It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best. Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

Centos 6 Server has no GUI
I believe I have the exact answer to "Centos 6 Server has no GUI" but I don't see how to attach my answer to that thread. I am running in Virtual Box on a Windows machine. When I changed my memory available from ? Gb to 1 Gb , and my video memory to 24Mb, my installation script went from an interface reminiscent of MS-DOS in the 80's to a nice GUI installation, and my number of packages installed went from 200 and some to 1400 and some. Apparently, the installation identifies what your box is capable of, and installs only what's appropriat...

Laptop non-graphic install init 5 to X not Gnome
Well I got my 1st notebook install done. Since the video card takes 24Mb memory, installer would not go graphical (256-24=232). But I can now boot into character mode. an init 5 brings up X, but I am in the X environment, and I want to be in Gnome. What file am I to edit and what changes do I make? thanks.

maximum memory size allocated by _xmalloc
Hi all, I''m currently inserting my own code to adjust the several existing memory ballooning works. To accomplish it, I manage some kind of statistics in Xen memory area. Using _xmalloc, I''ve allocated certain size of memory chunk for the data structure. ( I varied it from 10kb to 24 MB.) When the size is equal to 24 MB, xen won''t boot anymore. (stuck during the

Getting all R packages
Rather than spend a tedious interactive session picking several (in fact most) of the library packages off the CRAN site one by one, it would be handy to be able to grab the lot in one go (they seem to add up to about 24MB, so it's not a huge download). Is there a way to do this? Thanks for the help. Centos 5 text install doesnt install all of GNOME
I did find this out in another message here and they are right. This is a missing piece (one of many!) in the text install. Even if you select Gnome as your workstation WIndows environment, not all of Gnome gets in. You still have to do: yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" Then edit /etc/inittab file to reflect as shown below id:5:initdefault: ^ This number should be

Need more meetme users -- hitting some limit
...CPU (4 physical, 8 logical cores). 'ulimit' (added to /usr/sbin/safe_asterisk in the run_asterisk() function) says the open file limit is 397,006. 'ls -l /proc/$(cat /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.pid)/fd | wc -l' says Asterisk only has 2,194 files open. 'iftop' sees about 24Mb of bandwidth in each direction between the boxes. Using confbridge() I can easily get 3,000 calls (14,869 open files, 180Mb bandwidth), but I'd lose some functionality and have to re-write parts of my application. Any clues of what limit I'm hitting and how to increase it? -- Thanks i...

Re: ext3, S/W RAID-5 and many services
I am having the exact same problems with my linux box. I have a 486, 24Mb of ram, and a RAID 1 partition. The box runs dhcp, xinetd, telnetd, and samba. It currently only serves the RAID 1 partition via samba to a single Win98 box. Under any large file transfer to the linux box, regardless of which machine initiates the x-fer, the linux box kernel panics and dies. Curren...

Memory usage issues
...after the initial mongrel_rails startup, each server uses about 22MB of memory. However, after serving pages for a day or so, that memory usage will have increased from 22MB to ~40MB. If I leave the server running, it just keeps climbing. My memory usage with FastCGI was pretty stable at about 22-24MB per dispatcher, regardless of how long they''d been running. I''m far from a high-traffic site, so this is a bit unexpected. I''ve tried this both in a single-server setup and using mongrel_cluster, and the results are similar. I''m running on Debian testing behin...

7.1, mpt and slow writes
Hello, I think this needs a few more eyes: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-scsi/2009-January/003782.html In short, writes are slow, likely do to the write-cache being enabled on the controller. The sysctl used in 6.x to turn the cache off don't seem to be in 7.x. Thanks, Charles ___ Charles Sprickman NetEng/SysAdmin Bway.net - New York's Best Internet - www.bway.net

[leaf-user] FW: CF Boot media creation
...ink DOS6.22 uses FAT12. I checked syslinux site and it says we can boot off FAT12 or FAT16 partitions. Problems occur only when cylinder count > 1024 or cluster size > 16kb. I remember Guitarlynn's oft repeated comment in the mailing list that syslinux gives a problem if partition is > 24MB. I also tried Ranish Partition Manager to format the CF card in FAT12 mode. Still syslinux gave the same error. Syslinux unix version executed under leaf gives a grsec and segmentation fault. Now I'm beginning to pull my hair out. converting BMDP 8V mixed model treatment to R ?
...So it looks as if I have to change to mle from nmle package. I did not succeed to translate this model to mle yet. Trial-and-error fails mostly, because the problem thrashes my system (FreeBSD, K6-233, 64MB). This is particularly astonishing, as BMDP8V does it's work without problems on an old 24MB uVAX VMS system in mere 20 seconds CPU time. To run the above R partial solution I have to wait for about an hour on a freshly loaded R, after making the swapspace 3times as large as I use in normal work. There must be something wrong, but I have no idea, how to advance. -- Dipl.-Math. Wilhelm Ber...
