CPU for Dovecot
Hi,
we are planning to change hardware for our standalone Dovecot instance
handling ~5800 IMAP users with 1TB mailboxes on local RAID. Is there
some recommendation about CPU?
We can choose from:
- Intel Xeon E5-2620v4 - 2,1GHz at 8,0GT 20MB cache, 8core, HT, 85W, LGA2011
- Intel Xeon E5-2623v4 - 2,6GHz at 8,0GT 10MB cache, 4core, HT, 85W, LGA2011
The difference is about more cores vs. hi frequency.
Thank you, Miloslav

How do I remove a kernel
I have 4 kernels in /boot, leaving on 20MB which is not enough for the
next one.
I had installonly_limit= set at 5, as there were some kernel problems.?
After I got the error that there was not enough room for another kernel,
I set installonly_limit= to 3 and did the update with --exclude=kernel*
That worked to update everything else,...

Extremely slow on certain files
I'm trying to rsync a large data set (approx 140K files, 4TB) between machines
directly connected on gigabit ethernet.
Normally it runs around 20MB/sec, which is acceptable.
However, it seems like there is one particular file that is giving rsync
heartburn... whenever it encounters this file, the speed drops down to 150KB/sec
speed within a few seconds. I don't know what's so special about this file.
I've tried scp'ing it di...

Incremental backup with only delta into a separate file.
...e qcow2 images also.
I came to a conclusion that this incremental concept is good, taking into
consideration that only the delta is transferred.
Is there anyway in which i can have only the delta of the original file be
present at the backup location.
something like
1. 1st backup is 100M
2. write 20MB to the original file
3. do a sync using hardlinks
4. i have 20MB file at backup location with the delta changes only.

Recommended journal size for /boot
I want to convert the last of my filesystems to ext3. The only one
left is /boot. It is not very big however, only about 10MB itself.
Any recommendations on what size journal to put a /boot filesystem of
only 10-20MB?
Oh, BTW: "tunefs -j -J size=..." is awesome. No more gyrations with dd,
chattr, lilo -R, etc. Nice! One note however: even in Stephen's
1.20.WIP.sct-20010216 release, it is an error to use -j without -J ...
I seem to recall that -j without -J size is supposed to estimate a

Memory error
I''m using ruby on rails on a Macbook Pro with sqlite3. I''m finding that
memory for the ruby process stays about 20mb until I hit an error after
which the mermory doesn''t seem to be released and keeps going up until I
can''t use my machine.
What could be causing this? is it using sqlite3? have I set up rails or ruby
wrong?

Vista client / Linux server - high browsing latency
...following system set up:
Server: Ubuntu 7.04, Samba 3.0.24,
http://www.esuna.co.uk/~jay/misc/smb.conf
Client: Vista Ultimate 64-bit, NetBIOS over TCP/IP disabled, LMHOSTS
lookup disabled. Share mapped to drive Z:.
Up until a few days ago this was working fine. Read/write transfer rates
of over 20MB/s onto a RAID-1 array, speedy browsing. But yesterday I
noticed a drop in browsing latency; there's now a short but noticeable
delay before directory listings appear. Cygwin's ls (which I assume was
inefficient to begin with, but quite usable) takes 9 seconds to list a
small directory.

speed with memory mapping (Word)
Hiya,
I am running Windows NT Terminal Server w/ Citrix MetaFrame
1.8. I am mounting UNIX users home directories to the NT world via
Samba 2.0.3. When I copy a 20MB or larger file in the explorer,
Samba's performance is great. However, if I want to open a 20MB MS
Word document Samba's performance drops below the floor.
I assume that MS Word memory maps to the file on the share,
because my terminal server's memory usage does not increase

for the latest CentOS 5.x releases.
My wikiname is RonArts.
Thanks,

Mongrel and Memory usage.
Hi,
I am using mongrel for a long time... But just now I see a problem. I am
running 3 instances using mongrel_cluster and nginx as a reverse proxy. When
I start the cluster I have a memory usage of 20MB per instance... In the end
of the day this usage is something about 230MB for each instance. It should
be a memory leak?
Thanks for the help.

Restriciting memory usage for samba using Cgroups
Hi
Currently we are using cgroups to limit samba memory usage on our target
we have limited the memory to 20MB and we are able to see samba is
restricted to it.
With this we are able to restrict the cache memory to ~34MB (never goes
beyond this)
BUt issue we arere facing is the Buffers are increasing gradually and it is
not able to restrict.
Commands Used to restrict memory on target:

Samba 4.1 & NAS & openSuse13.1 - wrong disc volume
...otebook (via Samba because of other
notebook with Win7 will access).
In NAS I have set public folder and this folder I have put in fstab in
notebook with a mounting point. All seems OK and after mounting I can see
and go through tree, I can create folders but disc space is shown "0B free
from 20MB". The disc is 3TB and I cant download there any file due to
missing free space.
If I access to NAS via FTP, I can do what I want - upload/download.
I have tried to figure out this via google but it is more difficult for me
than I am able to solve by myself.
Thank you for your ideas.

icecast with midi/video
Hi,
I am evaluating icecast for a project that requires video and/or midi data
with the stream.
I am bandwidth limited upto 20Mb/s so icecast would provide a good base to
work from for low bitrate audio streaming.
Ideally I would like to be able to serve data to 20 client devices.
I am considering the tradeoff between streaming video content and
triggering video data with midi events.
Do you have any suggestions for using...

Rails and Lighttpd, hangs?
I know this is kind of a generic question. But, when hitting my
lighttpd/rails site on some of the first hits, the site hangs. I
think it has something with the lighttpd configuration, possibly
something I am missing with rails or ruby? Any ideas or how to track
this down.

Limit Request Body Size (Disallow very large File-uploads)
...ts for non-static files are passed on to a mongrel_cluster
3.) We use mongrel for our Ruby on Rails application
Note that due to some restrictions we are unable to use
Apache/Passenger for our production deployment.
Is there a way to tell mongrel to skip requests which exceed a certain
limit (say 20MB) and return a 400 (Bad Request) response or the like?
I have tried to use the LimitRequestBody directive of Apache httpd,
but this obviously does not work, since Apache httpd passes most of
it''s requests directly on to mongrel. Thanks for your help!
