speex over radio and homemade hardware
...task to hunt down a codec that out solar car team can use to transmit and receive data over a radio link between a chase car and the solar car its self. As of now I do not know the exact specifications of the internal hardware of the car, what I do know is they are looking at transmitting across a 2400baud connection, the unit in the car is homemade from our labs here. From what I understand it can be programmed quite easily. What I've was wondering is will this speex will satisfy my needs, naturally with some modification to fit our hardware? Oh I should also mention that the setup in the cha...

speex over radio and homemade hardware
...and so forth - do admittedly generally chunk data, but the headers inbetween chunks are often no more than a CRC-32 and a byte allowing out-of-stream escaping or very simple commands. > transmit and receive data over a radio link > what I do know is they are looking at transmitting across a 2400baud connection Forgive the presumption, but why don't you just send voice over the radio link? Short of encryption, which is best handled elsewise anyway, I can't think of a good reason to create a data stream, losing a lot of the applicable range of the audio stream to modulation steps, to f...

Cannot access Patriot Pro II from new system
...and NUT (unsure which version, default repos). I checked it's wiring, it's as described in http://www.networkupstools.org/cables.html#_phoenixtec_best_power except that PC Pins 1,8 and 9 are connected to ground/shield. Or a serial setup failure? stty tells me that the driver sets speed to 2400baud, but does that mean that the driver can establish a connection to the device? How to tell? If I interpreted other posts correctly, I should be able to use a terminal program to access the UPS device. So I started minicom -D /dev/ttyS0 (without and with " -b 2400" or " -b 9600"...

Megatec serial UPS woes
...answer was to find out what was going up and down the serial cable so out came the old trusty Techtronix 834 serial line monitor and the correct replies come back from a Q1 command! (208.5 182.0 230.7 054 50.0 2.29 39.0 00000001c/r Just to go one step further I used minicom to chat with ttyS0 at 2400baud 8bit no parity no flow controls! Q1 results in the correct result and F seems fine to with #230.0 013 096.0 50.0 So I assume the comms is good! So I decided to hack the megatec.c source at line 338 which reads upsdebugx(1, "UPS doesn't return any information about its status."); by...

Bit pealing and streaming
Hi: Since I'm not a programmer and just want to get stuff worked out properly in my head, I'm posting this here. I just want to be sure I have all the concepts regarding vorbis and high sampling rates at low bit rates all sorted out. Note that this will involve questions, some of which I've been looking for answers to for some time. The way I understand things is that vorbis is
