Migrating RHEL 3 to Centos 5.2 - has Adaptec 2400a RAID
Greetings all. I'm new to the mailing list. Hope to get to know many
of you. I'll jump right in with a recent project. I have a machine with
RHEL WS 3 - Taroon; plus dual boot to Win 2000 Pro. The RAID card is
Adaptec's 2400A w/128 megs cache, running RAID 10 on 4 WD's. I want to
migrate to 5.2 Centos and wipe the NTFS partition. I have the 5.2 Centos
DVD. Anyone see any problems, special preparation needed, whatever, to
accomplish the migration? The RAID uses dpt_i2o drivers. The NVidia card
can get drivers fro...

Centos 6.5 installer failure w/Adaptec 2400A RAID 10
I have Centos 5.10 that I decided to upgrade to 6.5 via DVD iso.
Installer worked fine - up to point where it was looking for disks to
install the image on. Could not find a workaround to get it to install.
Obviously, prior instances of Centos worked just fine in this regard. I
then tried a DVD iso image of Linux Mint 17. Installed just fine w/LVM
working flawlessly. Can anyone point me to

Kernel Panic
I have just installed Redhat 7.2 on a P3 with adaptec 2400A IDE RAID. After
many attempts with the partitions, I have finally managed to install but not
get the following error on boot:

error mounting ext3
pivotroot:pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd)failed:2

Hardware RAID 10 server - reformat NTFS partition to ext3 and resize for Centos 5.5
Here's the situation. I have a dual boot machine - originally had Red
Hat and Windows 2000 Pro. The NTFS partition never did seem to 'get
along' with the Adaptec 2400A caching RAID controller. Linux always
seemed to like the I2O drivers. I went from RH Enterprise to now running
Centos 5.5. Works great! I really don't want the 200 gigs worth of NTFS.
Can't I just run GParted from a CD, reformat the NTFS and append the
space to the existing Linux partit...

Random Directories
...erally things like 00000cccdcdc. It started in one person's home directory and that's why I am leaning towards a virus. The only problem is that I can't find a virus on the work stations. The configurations is as follows:
Redhat 9 with Samba 2.2.8
RAID5 (hardware using Adaptec's 2400A card and 4 WD 250Gig drives)
Workstations -> Windows XP Pro (just upgraded from ME)
Thanks for your help. I don't want to blow this one. This office is a small portion of a much bigger company. If I get this one to work out, I am hoping they will consider it elsewhere.
Thanks for your h...

I20 Drivers Crash system when used with Rsync
...or Rsync so
I'm submitting to both the Kernel Bugzilla and the Rsync mailing list. I
couldn't find a bugzilla for Rsync. I hope this was the correct way to
submit this issue.
Distribution: Debian
Hardware Environment: Intel 850MV Mother board, Pentium 4 processor,
1Gig of RAM, Adaptec 2400A RAID Controler. Both the motherboard and
Controller card have the most recent BIOS/firmware installed. The
Adaptec card is capable of RAID configuration but currently it is
configured to view each of the attached IDE drives as individual drives.
None of the cards RAID features are presently bee...

apcupsd
Here's an odd one: I installed apcupsd, and it works with most of our
UPSs. I'd swear it worked on this one. Then I replaced the Gin-u-wine APC
batteries, which were dead, with new ones, non-APC. They're just dumb
batteries, no chips or whatever on them.
If I hook it up using a serial cable, I can get info. If I hook it up the
way I had it, with APC's weird USB cable - and this is

Installing CentOS on RAID PATA not SATA - A8V
I'm trying to install CentOS 4 on an A8V on the
PATA/Raid drives on the Promise controller. The
Promise controller is recognized (sata_promise), but
the PATA drives are not recognized. Base on this
thread
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147303
it seems that there is a patch which was merged in
2.6.11 to get pata working.
Any ideas how to proceed?
Thanks in advance

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with
CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the
fact that the raid is transparent to the OS.
Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this
sort of usage?
From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux
