The log snippet doesn''t have the detail in it - have a look in /var/log/SMlog - you might find something more useful in there. NLS and fitting of x-values?
I collected eggs laid by Springtails everyday over 28 days after swich to isotopically enriched diet. The eggs were pooled at day 7, 14, and 28 (+ day 0 = initial value) and analyzed for isotopes. After the diet switch the isotopic values of the adults and eggs change towards those of the new diet. Here are the d13C values (y) of the eggs: x y 0 -22.2 0 -22.2 0 -22.2 0 -22.0 7

NA confusion (length question)
Hi folks, I am running a very simple regression using mylm <- lm(mass ~ tarsus, na.action=na.exclude) I would like the use the residuals from this analysis for more regression but I'm running into a snag when I try cbind(mylm$residuals, mydata) # where my data is the original data set The error tells me that it cannot use cbind because the length of mylm$residuals is

standardGeneric seems slow; any way to get around it?
Hi, I'm running some routines with standard matrix operations like solve() and diag(). When I do a profile, the lead item under total time is standardGeneric(). Furthermore, solve() and diag() have much greater total time than self time. ??? I assume there is some time-consuming decision going on in the usual functions; is there any way to avoid that and go straight to the calculaions? Thanks

Faster union of polygons?
Dear R-helpers, thanks for yesterday's speeding-up tip. Here is my next query: I have lots of polygons (not necessarily convex ones, and they never have holes) given by x,y coordinates. I want to get the polygon that is the union of these polygons. This is my current method, but I am hoping there is a faster method (up to thousands of polygons, each with ca. 40 xy points). Example:

"Operation not permitted" error when using "xe vm-start"
Hey! I am following the steps at http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/XCP_Beginners_Guide for creating a VM. I''ve setup my test VM with 1GiB min/max memory. I''ve assigned 2GiB of memory to dom0 (http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Best_Practices) . My box has 12GB of physical memory and runs Ubuntu 13.04. When I do "xe vm-start", I get the following: The server failed to handle

Need advise in grab the line number of sorted list in R
Hi, I have a data frame which format is like below:- X Y Z 131 22.2 3.4 4.4 150 20.0 12.2 4.5 etc... And I have sorted the data frame. However, I would like to grab one of these elements in the data frame. Also, i would like to number these rows so that when i grab a particular line let say 150, it is able to return me the position of the row rather than the "150".

Dear RUsers, I guess this is an easy question for someone a little familiar with programming...(which I am not)... I've got 2 colummns, one shows just dates(SST_date, Class 'Date' num), the other one shows the SeaSurfaceTemperature (SST, num) at that certain date. Importing Excel/Openoffice Dates into R
Hi, I would like to import some daily financial data from excel via csv. More specifically, I would like to be able to use the ts.union function from the tseries library as the dates are irregular and I need to line up the dates so that I can place all the variables into one data frame. The trouble is, how do I import the dates from excel into R? At the moment I'm just importing the data

Urgent Help needed
Dear All: Urgent help is needed. I have a data set in matrix format of three columns: X, Y and index of four groups (1,2,3,4). What I need to do is the following; 1- How I can subtract the sample mean of each group indexed 1,2,3,4 from the corresponding data values of this group and create new columns say X-sample mean and Y-sample mean? I tried to use the "tapply" but
