make check reg-tests-1.R error on solaris
R 2.5.1 compiled, passed the make check and has been successfully
running for a couple years on a Sun Fire V490 running Solaris 9. I
need a newer version of R, but can't get a newer version of R to pass
the make check. I've tried 2.8.1, 2.7.2, 2.6.2 and 2.6.0. (2.5.1 still
passes on this server) At this point I thought I'd try to compile it
on another Sun server (Solaris 10),

Hello folks,
I am having a problem installing pbatR package. (My R version is 2.8.1.)
As I execute a command
> install.packages(lib='/usr/local/apps/R-2.8.1/lib64/R/library', "pbatR")
it detects lack of rootSolve package and attempts to install it. But
cannot seem to compile it, and the rest is aborted.
Any hint as to what I can do?

NUT 2.8.1-3 " Can't claim USB device [051d:0002]@0/0: Entity not found" using usbhid-ups
Hi all,
Yesterday, I bought a UPS for the first time in my life, and was eager to
dive into NUT. But not all is working as expected... I saw a similar thread
started on 18 October, but it didn't help me. (I also spent a handful of
hours searching the web for solutions, and of course read the manual and
FAQ - "queequeg".)
I tried shutting my UPS (APC "Back-UPS BX750MI

R 2.8.1 change user input color of R scrpt too
Hello R community
I'm using R 2.8.1 version and would like to change the color of user input
for script pages. Once I have changed the color of console background and
user input (by means of Interface Preferences menu), the color of script
background has been automatically changed but the color of user input has
not.
Has someone any useful advice for my (little) problem?

newly install old and present R versions
Hi,
Moving to a new computer (Windows 7) but for reasons of reproduceability
I would seriously like to also install my present R 2.8.1 along with all
extension packages on that machine as well (that is besides R 2.14.1).
What's the best way of doing so?
My idea is:
Get the setup for 2.8.1 and install it; during install neither select
'save version number in registry' nor

Hello,
I was thinking about what could be going wrong here, and a few ideas pop
up:
1) If you installed NUT from packaging, there should have been no need to
add OS groups/users manually. There is a valid use-case for running
different daemons under different accounts, as long as they talk over
network and access same files or UNIX sockets at best by sharing a group
for that, but it does need

Can't read table encoded in Unicode (R-2.8.1)
Hi all,
I have problems reading Unicode (UTF-16) coded tables in R 2.8.1 under
Windows Vista.
Imagine the following table:
a b c d
X 1,2 1,3 1,4
Y 2,2 2,3 2,4
Z 3,2 3,3 3,4
Usually I would use the following code to read the table:
t = read.table("test.txt", header=T, sep="\t",dec=",")
This works well if I create the table

Now it comes downgrade or install two R versions under Linux
R-sig-Debian help,
Yesterday I sought help regarding R upgrading from R-2.8.1 to R-2.9.1.
I must thank specially Dirk for his helpful advice.
But now I am facing a dilemma. I want to install a package called FLR which
works under R-2.8.1. So my question is whether I can keep the latest release (R-2.9.1)
and also install R-2.8.1 (and if feasible how.)
Alternatively I could uninstall R-2.9.1 and

When entering a debug()'ed function, the call printout is not limited by

Should it be? If so, here's a patch:

unicode only works with a second one
I'd like to paste a zodiac sign on a graph, but it only prints it when
I add another unicode ( \u3030) to the desired \u2648 - why?
See the examplecode (compare the orange with the skyblue):
plot(c(-1,1),c(-4,-2),type="n")
text(x=0,y=-3.0,labels="\u2648 \u3030",cex=2.3,col="skyblue")
text(x=0,y=-3.2,labels="\u2648",cex=2.3,col="orange")
