metRology package
I'm having trouble with a simple application with metRology. I need to estimate the uncertainty of the density thickness of seven sheets of film. This is calculated from measurements of mass, length and width of rectangular samples of film. It's not too hard to calculate the whole thing with a little Monte Carlo loop. I get about 0.07 with this: #sample area

convert lines to inches
Hi, how can I convert the unit "lines" of par("mar") into inches? par("mai") could help, but does not (see code below). I want to plot a curve in a predefined size in pdf (I add some margin space to the plot width&height, everything is in cm): pdf("test.pdf",width=(20+2+4)/2.54,height=(10+3+1)/2.54) plot(10:30,

wireplot margins and additional z-axis
Dear R experts, it would be very kind if you could help me with two wireplot problems. First, when I make a wireplot and transform it into an .eps using the postscript function the eps-file leaves always a lot of space below the plot, as if it would leave space for a legend or something like that. How can i get the plot into the bottom corner without the space below? The space is not there when

Mixed Effect Model - Jackknife error estimate
Greetings, I?ve fit the following mixed effects model using the NLME package: hd.impute.lme <- lme(I(log(HEIGHT_M - 1.37)) ~ SPECIES + SPECIES:I(1/(DBH_CM + 2.54)), random = ~ I(1/(DBH_CM + 2.54)) | PLOTID, data = trees, na.action = na.exclude) I would now like to extract a jackknife estimate of model error. I tried the following code, however, the estimate produced seems too

measurement unit
Dear R-list, Could anybody tell me where to find information about changing the measurement unit from inch to centimeters? I read the help from X11, I read R-intro and I did some searhing in the R archives, but I couldn't find the answer. For example, I would like to produce a plot of a certain width and height: X11(width=10, height=5) and I would like these to be centimeters, rather

size of point symbols
Dear list, This might be a topic for r-devel but i may be missing something obvious. I don't understand the rationale in the absolute sizes of the point symbols, and I couldn't find it documented. The example below uses Grid to check the size of the symbols against a square of 10mm x 10mm. > checkOneSymbol <- function(pch=0){ > gTree(children=gList( >

Suggested tidying up
Package grDevices has a function cm() to convert from inches to centimeters. Its definition is: cm <- function(x) 2.54*x As far as I can tell, the function is not used anywhere in the R sources (I grepped for "cm(", "cm)" and ", cm".) I did not check for all packages on CRAN, though. May I propose to remove this apparently useless function from the sources? [I

some (may be related) problems with windows(rescale=) (PR#795)
If these things bother you, could you please supply fixes? For some reason you omitted the part of the help page dealing with one of these (which is as documented), and I also think you are confusing `plot' and `device' sizes. The latter will be the displayed device surface, I believe. Nothing on the help page suggested that the fine details of the R read-only parameters will be as you

pdf files, change in content
There seems to be something different about pdf files generated under RAqua (1.8.1). I am losing text. I am not sure when things changed but, on Carbon 1.7, when files were 'drag and dropped' onto another application they worked fine. Now the text is lost but the graphics are intact. However the text is there when viewed with Acrobat. On the other hand, if I output to an eps file and

inches to centimeters in Graph settings
Hi R users, I made a few research on how to convert inches into centimeters for graphics settings (especially width and height of the graphic device). Apart from the function layout() wich can be settled in centimeters using lcm(), I found that writing a function that convert centimeters into inches (i.e. x/2.54) was probably the best answer. Is there somewhere any parameter that could help
