Formatting significant digits with trailing zeros
I need a function like signif(), but returns the rounded values as character strings, formatted with trailing zeros where appropriate. If anyone has one, I would sure appreciate a copy. Thanks -Don Details: signif() rounds a number to a specified number of significant digits, for example: > x <- c(2.503,2.477,0.1204) > signif(x[1],3) [1] 2.5 > signif(x[2],3) [1] 2.48

Using subset to filter data table
I am having difficulty understanding how I would constrain a data set by filtering out 'records' based on certain criteria. Using SQL I could query using 'select * from my.data where LithClass in ('sand', 'clay')' or some such. Using subset, there seem to be ghosts left behind (that is, all of the LithClass *.Labels* remain after subset) > dput(tcc)

Static linking against glibc
I'm building an RPM of a DNS server called NSD on CentOS 4.4. I'm going to be using it for some heavy-duty DNS traffic, so I want to minimise its dependencies on external libraries. I have therefore attempted to link it statically. The package does build, and even runs fine. However, during the build process, gcc emits warnings like these: nsd.o(.text+0xfba): In function `main':

optim and singularity
Hello, I was unable to find clues to my problem in ?optim. Using the data and code below, I get an error ("system is exactly singular") when a particular line of code is left in, but have found that 'optim' works when I comment it out. The line of code in question is after the closeAllConnections() line of code and contains a call to "na.approx" from the zoo package.
