Subsetted 1-D arrays (PR#4110)
...uments this change, as an indirect result of bug
report 4110. I just wanted to mention this can break code in some rather
obscure ways, such as this toy example:
R> x <- sort(tapply(1:8, rep(1:4,2), sum)) # Was vector, now is 1D array
R> y <- matrix(1:4, 1,4) # 1x4 matrix
R> x + y # Used to return a 1x4 matrix
Error in x + y : non-conformable arrays
I agree with the change, but I would beware that some puzzled users may not
associate new "tapply problems" with this news item.
Also, *should* you be able...

loop: results for all inputs
Dear R users,
I am using a loop that does matrix multiplication in a manner
(A%*%B)%*%(A)
Here A is a row of data frame D of order(200x4). B is a (4x4). No need to say D[j,] is 1x4
so I am using
for(j in seq(0.1,20,by=0.1)){
S<- (D[j,]%*%B)%*%(D[j,])
print(S)
}
As a result I am geting only one value of S, which comes using j=20.
I need all 200 values of S so that I can use that for further analysis. Means I need a 200x1 column.
Any help will be...

layout is to xyplot as ??? is to qplot
...library(ggplot2)
myData <- data.frame(
x = rnorm(100),
y = rnorm(100),
group = 1:4
)
xyplot(y ~ x | factor(group), data = myData, layout = c(2, 2))
qplot(x, y, facets = ~ group, data = myData)
In this code the lattice example gives me a 2x2 layout, whereas the ggplot
example gives me a 1x4 layout, as per the facets specification. Can I mimic
the effect of the layout parameter in xyplot inside qplot? Apologies if I've
missed an obvious help-page somewhere!
Thanks in advance,
Jim Price

Xorcom BRI state NOTOPEN
Hello,
I recently got a problem I have never seen during my previous
installations.
I have a Xorcom device with 4 BRI and 8 FXS ports. I use ubuntu Linux
and asterisk 1.4.22. Everything works fine but after some time zap
channels disappear in asterisk.

Changing UPS to a bigger APC 1500 1000WA, what driver?
...ps, a cast iron
bitch. An old wet batttery NCR that was bigger than my 30" tower
computer. Ate battery's for breakfast too. This automatic configuration
is a breath of fresh air, thank you very much.
Amazing... Now I need to get something and finsh shoving it under the
desk, piece of 1x4 about 4 feet long. Must be all of 70 lbs... Or I'm
getting puny in my advanced years. I no longer can claim I am as good as
I ever was, not even once.
Cheers, Gene Heskett

4.8-STABLE Kernel Panic with dummynet options.
I first met this problem when our (60 students) internetgateway refused to
boot its new kernel, it was a 4.7-RELEASE. Then i loaded the old kernel and
went home to check if my 4.8-STABLE does likewise. And the answer was yes!
Both kernels were GENERIC + these options taken from the dummynet man pages:
options DUMMYNET
options NMBCLUSTERS
options HZ

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
