btrfs-raid10 <-> btrfs-raid1 confusion
...run to finish (which will take much longer than I thought; still running) I found out that as of kernel 3.3 changing the RAID level (aka restriping) is now possible: [2]. I got two questions now: 1.) Is there really no difference between btrfs-raid1 and btrfs-raid10 in my case (2 x 2TiB, 2 x 1TiB disks)? Same degree of fault tolerance? 2.) Summing up the capacities reported by ''btrfs filesystem df'' I only get ~2.25 TiB for my filesystem, is that a realistic net size for 3 TiB gross? $ btrfs filesystem df /mnt/archive Data, RAID1: total=2.10TB, used=1....

formatting a 3 terabyte partition
hi. i'm hitting a wall each time i try to format a 3 terabyte partition. i'm able to create the partition using parted but whenever i try to create a 3 terabyte xfs or jfs or ext3 filesystem, the mounted filesystem created is only 1 terabyte. i tried centos x86 and x86_64 4.0 but i always hit a 1 terabyte limit. please help.

Opteron in 32-bit mode
I'm spec-ing a development server for some Haskell hackers. In particular, they need to be able to build and run the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (ghc), the x86_64 port of which isn't quite there yet. My current thought is to get an Opteron-based system, but load it (initially, at least) with the 32-bit i386 version of CentOS. That buys me near-term ghc compatibility. In the future,

Large partition problem
I really hope someone has a clue on this one.... :) I've got a 2.2TB array mounted on a 3ware 9500 controller. I installed it last week ensuring that LBA was enabled and using gpt with parted to get the full size available on one array. I also think I chose reiserfs for the array. We then moved ALOT of data to the array. Problem now is that after a reboot LBA doesn't seem to be in

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
- Ahh OK now I see why I was confused. The originally posted partition map uses cylinders as units, not LBA. I missed that. Cylinder 1 is the same as LBA 63. And that is sufficiently large for a GRUB legacy stage 2. - OK this is screwy. Partitions 1 and 3 on both drives have the same number of sectors, but partitions 2 differ: /dev/hde2 401,625 975,691,709 975,290,085 fd Linux

700GB gone?
I have a 1.5TB disk that has several partitions. One of them is 900GB. Now I can only see 300GB. Where is the rest? Is there a command I can do to reach the rest of the data? Will scrub help? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

[OT] Memory Models and Multi/Virtual-Cores -- WAS: 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing
...1 ADD/MULT FPU able to equal Intel's 1 complex _or_ 2 ADD FPU plus 2 SSE pipes at doing the majority of matrix transforms (which are MULT -- hence why Intel's FPU can't do 2 simultaneously, and relies heavily on its precision-lacking SSE pipes). Also contrary to popular opinion, 40-bit/1TiB Digital Alpha EV6 interconnect forms the basis for _all_ addressing in _all_ Athlon releases, including the 32-bit. There are a few mainboards that allow even 32-bit Athlons to safely address above 4GB with _no_ paging or issues (with an OS that offers such a supporting kernel, like Linux). The 3...
