> 1TB filesystems with ZFS and 32-bit Solaris?
Solaris in 32-bit mode has a 1TB device limit. UFS filesystems in 32-bit mode also have a 1TB limit, even if using a logical volume manager to span smaller than 1TB devices. So, what kind of limit does ZFS have when running under 32-bit Solaris? -- Erik Trimble Java System Support Mailstop: usca14-102 Phone: x17195 Santa Cl...

>1TB ZFS thin provisioned partition prevents Opensolaris from booting.
Not sure where to put this but I am cc''ing the ZFS - discussion board. I was successfull in creating iscsi shares using ZFS set shareiscsi=on with 2 thin provisioned partitions of 1TB each (zfs create -s -V 1tb idrive/d1). Access to the shares with an iscsi initiator was successful, all was smooth, until the reboot. Upon reboot, the console reports the following errors. WARNING: /scsi_vhci/disk at g0100015c55fb40900002a00483e34c6 (sd9): disk has 3221225472 blocks, which i...

Infrastructure HELP!
...tarted a social networking site and I am getting ready to go live next week. I have limited fund as I am not funded yet (although hopefully soon). I have an extra Mac Pro (I know, how can I possibly call a Mac Pro dual 2.8 quad core with 16gb RAM extra). So Mac Pro quad Core, 16gb RAM, 4 x 1tb RAID level Seagate drives. I was going to load CentOS 5.4 on it, web, mysql etc, etc. This is really the only box I have that would handle the site it it takes off and then I would need to add more hardware and most hosting to RackSpace or something. My question is about initial setup. The 4...

Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and 1TB Seagate Barracuda ES.2
Hi all, I''m getting a very strange problem with a recent OpenSolaris b134 install. System is: Supermicro X5DP8-G2 BIOS 1.6a 2x Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 1.0b 11 Seagate Barracuda 1TB ES.2 ST31000340NS drives If I have any of the 11 1TB Seagate drives plugged into the controller, the AOC-SAT2-MV8 BIOS appears to detect them just fine, but I get the following problems: 1. Grub takes a long time to findroot 2. Once Grub finally finds the OS disk, OpenSolaris sits and hangs...

Suggestions welcome for expanded single array and redundancy
...ould like to achieve N+2 redundancy but have the ability to keep adding servers to increase the available overall storage. We basically want a big NFS accessible network storage with underlying redundancy across storage on different servers. Example 3 x Servers - each with Gluster configured with 1TB of storage Configured for replication Available storage 1TB Redundancy 2 x copies The above is straight forward. What we want to achieve is Add more servers (for the sake of the exercise specs will be identical) Keep the same level of redundancy N+2 Increase storage If 2 more servers were instal...

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
I am trying to upgrade my system from 500GB drives to 1TB. I was able to partition and sync the raid devices, but I cannot get the new drive to boot. This is an old system with only IDE ports. There is an added Highpoint raid card which is used only for the two extra IDE ports. I have upgraded it with a 1TB SATA drive and an IDE-SATA adapter. I di...

RFE: ZFS commands "zmv" and "zcp"
...uble. Situation, the contents of one ZFS file system needs to be moved to another ZFS file system. The destination can be the same Zpool, even a brand new ZFS file system. A command to move the data from one ZFS file system to another, WITHOUT COPYING, would be nice. At present, the data is almost 1TB. Ideally a "zmv" or "zcp" program would be nice. And no, "zfs send" and "zfs receive" won''t do the same thing. Those would require hours, or possibly days to copy 1TB to the same Zpool. Plus, I would have to make the source R/O during the copy. I c...

Problem with Arima HDAMA rev.G with Integrated SiliconImage Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports and 1TB SATA disks. Recomendation for a cheap SATA controller for linux software raid?
...ost 3 years ago I purchased Arima HDAMA rev. G motherboard with integrated Silicon Image Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports SATA I adapter. ( http://www.arimacorp.com/ViewProduct.asp?View=86 ) . BIOS version is 2.13. My intention is to make a file server, using linux software raid, so I bought 2 new shiny 1TB SATA II disks, and installed them. Unfortunately the system does not boot - hangs in the Sil 3114 BIOS initialization stage. Apparently this is a known problem with Sil3114 and Sil3112: ( http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=ata_drives&message.id=970 ) The Silicon people have i...

Xen max supported memory per guest VM?
Hello, In http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Xen4.0 we mention the following: "Better performance and scalability: 128 vcpus per guest, 1 TB of RAM per host, 128 physical CPUs per host (as a default, can be compile-time increased to lots more)." But what''s the max supported amount of memory for a (64bit) guest? -- Pasi _______________________________________________

OSX file creation problems
I am running a REHL 4.3 server with samba RPMs: 3.0.10-1.4e.9 When an os X client connects to our samba server it can copy files from the server an overwrite other files that already exist. However when it comes time to create a file, it fails, where this process works correctly from a windows system. In addition, I can go to where the volume is mounted on the os X (10.3.7) machine and copy

The time has come to expand my OpenSolaris NAS. Right now I have 6 1TB Samsung Spinpoints in a Raidz2 configuration. I also have a mirrored root pool. The Raidz2 configuration should be for my most critical data - but right now it is holding everything so I need to add some more pools and move some data around. To start I need a vdev I will call "temp" t...
