OT: VIA Mini-ITX, Asterisk, and hardware
...ne out there have actual experience with running * on a mini-itx board from VIA? They look good, but I have some reserves because of VIA's problems with PCI latency in recent years (audio dropouts, wierd things happening). I am looking at the EPIA CL-10000. For $270, I can get a CL-10000 (1ghz C3, dual ethernets, etc), 256mb RAM, and a nice small (12 x 2 x 11) case (with 1 4cm fan)... They look like a good next step (or leap) up from a Soekris Net4801. I know that 1ghz C3 != 1ghz intel, but it's still probably better than a 266mhz Geode... I would love to try this board with S...

Recommnded system
Can't find any recommended system specs on the website. What are they? Will it run well on a Celeron 1GHz? How about a 700Mhz? I'm asking because the company I'm hosting through is running a special on 700Mhz and 1Ghz servers, and if Icecast will run on these, I may just go ahead and lease 4-5 more to move my icecast stuff onto dedicated servers.

Theora on 1GHz G4 processor
I'd like to convert my DVD collection to Theora, but discovered that my good old powerbook (1GHz G4) can't keep up with it (tho a 1.2GHz P-III has no trouble with it): it seems to need a tiny bit more than 100% of CPU. I create my video files with Thoggen, at the largest possible size, with a quality setting of 50%. And I play them with VLC. Any hint of what I might want to try to do?...

Asterisk on Mini-Box M300
Hi, Did anyone try to install Asterisk on the Mini-Box M300 with a Versa mini-ITX board 1GHz VIA x86 CPU? The box looks promissing, but I am not sure if Digium cards are compatible with the mother board (Versa mini-ITX) Also I am not sure if the 1GHz VIA processor can handle a Digium 24 port analog board, or an E1 digital board. If anyone had tried the Mini-Box, the processor, of the m...

Processor Size
Can someone give me an idea of the processor power I will need for 1 x TDM240 with 2xquad FXO's and 8 sip phones/ATA's on a quite 100Mbit LAN. The machine we have available of hand is a P4 1GHz with 768MB RAM. Tx Marnus van Niekerk -- "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." ksoftirqd_CPU0 extreme CPU usage
Hi all, I dont know if this problem is related to shorewall, but as here we have a lot of firewall experts ... :) We are using a Leaf box (1GHz 256MB RAM) for a network with normal traffic of about 6Mbps but peaks of up to 40Mbps. The chipset of the ethernets is a Realtek. We are experiencing some high latency high CPU usage issues (the CPU is at 90%) and we discovered the process ksoftirqd_CPU0 could consume up to 50% of that. We ar...

RoR - Mac OS 10.4.4 on Intel
I got a new 20 inch iMac dual core today and am busy getting it all setup. A couple of issues though: 1. Is the Ruby 1.8.2 install by Apple still botched or has that been fixed? I recall someone had fixed the rbconfig.rb to get it working. Is this something I still have to do? 2. Does anyone know if Locomotive is using the uniersal binaries, or is it targetting PPC yet? I couldn''t

Asterisk & MS RTC Library & Ethernet Capacity
Hi guys, I was wondering whether there's anyone who could share his/her experiences with using Microsoft RTC Library. In particular I am wondering what Ethernet capacity should I have in scenario of 30 people using Microsoft RTC Library for SIP communication (PBX is obviously Asterisk :-) ) concurrently (alaw codec being used)? What problems can be expected in such scenario? Would a good 1

IAX and Jitter problem
...g around with * for quite a while now, and have run into a problem that I just cannot seem to figure out. When using * and any IAX client (I have tested with GnoPhone and both clients from iaxclient.sourceforge.net) I have incredibly bad jitter on the connection. What I'm running is a P3-1Ghz machine with 512mb ram for a server. The other end has been various machines (all connected via 100mb switch) ranging from a AMD K6-2 350 running Win98 to another P3-1Ghz running RH Linux 9.0 and GnoPhone. I've tried changing the jitterbuffer settings in iax.conf (including turning it of...

Asterisk overheating on VIA Epia M Series motherboard
Hello I am running Asterisk on SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 on a VIA Epia M Series motherboard - CPU runs at 1GHz. There is no fan - just a large heatsink. Currently system is running off standard IDE hard drive - because I couldn't get astlinux to run with my Digium TDM04B card (only PCI card in system). Strangely I also have the same system also running SUSE Linux running as a file server and that d...

Opinion on hardware (computer) for an Asterisk Server!
Hi list, I'm about to install Asterisk on an Old HP NetServer LC2000 Server (year 2001), it has 2 Pentium III 1GHz CPUs (Coppermine FSB 133MHz 256K L2 Cache), 768MB PC-133 ECC RAM, 3 UltraSCSI LVD2 18.2GB 10K RPM HDD in RAID5, 100Mb NIC for server. This Server will support 35 SIP phones (users) and 10 FXO ports (for telco lines) and 2 FXS ports (internal analog phones) with a Sangoma Remora A400 PCI card. Wha...

server recommentation (unique requirements)
...dy. I've been having trouble finding a fairly modern server that meets the following requirements: - Molex power connectors (don't want to use the Digium FXS power supply) - 4 PCI slots, one full-length (TDM2400P, 2xT100P, additional NIC) - dual power supplies - preferably dual CPUs >= 1GHz - preferably rack-mountable (3-4RU) - CentOS-friendly We'd also like to stay away from older HP servers. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Stephen Kratzer Network Engineer CTI Networks, Inc.

Lockups with kernel-2.6.32-358.0.1.el6.i686
I updated my home server with the 6.4 CR packages, and I've experienced 3 or 4 hard lockups since. The server is a fanless VIA C7 "CentaurHauls" system with a 1GHz CPU underclocked to 800MHz and 1GB of RAM. It has a dual-port Intel 82546GB NIC in its single PCI slot. (It also has an on-board Realtek RTL-8110SC/8169SC NIC that is plugged in, but doesn't currently have an IP address configured.) This server provides a number of services -- DNS, DHCP, rou...

ext3/kjournald overhead
Hi, I've recently installed ext3 on an 800MB RAID5 (software) array. I am running RedHat Linux 7.1 with the Linux kernel 2.4.12-ac3 on a 1GHz Pentium system with 128MB RAM. I am seeing a significant amount of write operation slowdown when running ext3 (and kjournald), as opposed to my old ext2. The problem seems to be associated with the times that kjournald is accessing the disk. At those moments, my CPU utilization peaks, and networ...

Samba - Performance Issues
Hello Guys, I am having some problems with configuring SAMBA with regards to performance. We are running SAMBA 2.2.3a on Dual PIII 1Ghz machines with 512MB of RAM. The server is running on a default server installation of Red Hat 7.2. We have a 500Gb RAID 5 drive using the Promise SX6000 Raid controller. Currently we are only getting a throughput of ~5MB/S for writes and ~13MB/S for reads. Comparing that to NFS which yealds ~15MB...

Asterisk hardware for new office suggestion
...mbit line (QoS on the switch and firewall?), to be configured for both traditional and VoIP usage . I was looking at the Xorcom TS-1 server and I was wondering if you would recommend it for a 30 employees office or if you'd rather build it on a "normal" server (would a double PIII 1Ghz be enough), and also if you could give a suggestion on the phones (we will get an HP Gbit switch PoE). Thanks, any hint really appreciated Simone
