[Centos 5] minimum RAM required to install : 1GB ?
Hi, From the release notes i can read : "Note that the minimum RAM required to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.92 has been raised to 1GB; the recommended RAM is 2GB. If a machine has less than 1GB RAM, the installation process may hang." Is it a joke/mistake ? :-O 1GB !!! I tested installation process with 256M / Celeron 600, seems to work ...) -- Martin

Hello Ivan, 'FastCopy' has an option to revise max I/O size and works for SMB :) it is a tool for file transferring and could be installed to win10, download here: https://fastcopy.jp/ This is an example for writing, a job would write a file named '1GB.img' from a local disk 'H:' to a remote SMB mounted net disk 'Z:', open 'FastCopy' tool and specify several options like: 1. specify 'Source': H:\1GB.img 2. specify 'DestDir': Z:\ 3. go to Option > Main Settings > I/O Setting > I/O unit (MB), t...

slow throughput on 1gbit lan
Hello, I'm trying to squeeze out maximum possible transfer between two Samba 3.3.1 servers. Both servers and switch supports jumbo frames, network link and disks does not appear to be bottleneck, between these two servers FTP transfer rates are about 115MB/s (1gbit link is saturated at this point) - and I'd like to see similar transfer from Samba (now I get half of it). 10.0.0.5 # wget ftp://10.0.0.2/1G 100%[=================================================================================================================>] 1,048,576,000 118M/s in...

scp vs ftp performance on SGI IRIX????????
Hi, Running OpenSSH 3.5p1 or 3.7.1p2 on two SGI orgin 300 systems of IRIX 6.5.17 with 4 600MHz CPU and gigabits network. Transfer a 1GB file with ftp took 28 seconds. Transfer a 1GB file with scp took 148 seconds. Use "snoop" to capture all network packets between these two systems. Ftp tansmitted about 107840 packets, but scp transmitted about 763339 packets. Is this normal? Why? Also, did the same test on two IBM AI...

RFC: Move the test-suite LLVM project to GitHub?

Individual pack files must be below 1GB, but the total repository can be much larger. That's true even for the free tiers. That said, it might be good idea to split the...

could not copy a file bigger than 1GB
Hi, I have installed Samba 2.2.8 on AIX 5.2 server. I tried to copy a file (around 106 GB) from win2k server to this AIX box. The "copy" process was stop when the file was copied up to 1GB. Do you know what was wrong? Is there anything I need to set on AIX server site in order to transfer large file? -Shujane

hap_2mb and hap_1gb options
I wanted to run without 2MB and 1GB EPT pages, so I added "hap_2mb=0 hap_1gb=0" to the Xen grub command line. However I see the following on Xen boot: (XEN) EPT supports 2MB super page. When I bring up a guest I see a non-zero number of 2MB pages in the "xl create" output: xc: info: VIRTUAL MEMORY ARRANGEMENT:...

File copy is working fine with small files. And I could copy the files more than 1Gb when the drive is with NTFS and other file systems I went though the code. Running out of memory when importing SPSS files
Hello R-help, I am trying to import a large dataset from SPSS into R. The SPSS file is in .SAV format and is about 1GB in size. I use read.spss to import the file and get an error saying that I have run out of memory. I am on a MAC OS X 10.5 system with 4GB of RAM. Monitoring the R process tells me that R runs out of memory when reaching about 3GB of RAM so I suppose the remaining 1GB is used up by the OS. Why wou...

ridiculous slow gigabit transfer, faster with VNC
Hi, I have a problem with file transfers between a windows systems and unix systems. I have one win32 desktop (intel e6400 2Gb Ram), one win32 laptop (p-m 2Ghz). Also one linux laptop (p-m 1.4GHz) and one opensolaris desktop (intel e4400 1GB Ram). The two laptops have built-in 100Mbit ethernet and desktops have 1Gbit ethernet on the motherboard. Both desktops use a Marvell Yukon. The file transfer rate between two systems using FTP between the two desktops (win32 to opensolaris) is consistently 50Mb/sec which is as expected. Using s...

Using R in parallel on a 2 processor machine
...essor machine running Windows XP (these two processors have been split into 4 logical processors), with 4Gb of RAM. Rather than multi-threading, I wanted to run 2 instances of R on the machine in parallel, which uses two of the logical processors. Unfortunately, R seems to be accessing a total of 1Gb of RAM, not taking advantage of 2 lots of 1Gb. This has led to memory problems, with one R process using the RAM, and the other one running into memory problems. Looking at previous posts on this issue, I have tried using gc(), to take back unused memory. This has allowed the two parallel pro...

Does pxelinux work with >1GB RAM?
On machines with 2GB RAM, pxelinux doesn't seem to work for me. With Intel PXE, I had to limit the memory available to PXE to 768MB RAM. Has anyone tried pxelinux on machines with >= 1GB RAM? How do I limit memory to 768MB for pxelinux? H.J.
