Remote Win98 logging of Samba/Linux box
...o a Windows 98 request. You can see the request leaving the modem and can count the 50-70 seconds before the modem responds from the Linux Server box. Don't see the same problem if I telnet, ftp or ssh to the server. HELP!!!!! Any ideas? Using Linux Server (Mandrake 7.2) running Samba 2.0.7-18MDK via an dialup Internet connection using Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Appletalk as clients. Have not connected a VPN at this stage. Users able to connect without password?! (2.0.7)
Hi folks, I'm having a strange problem with a client for whom I've set up Samba (2.0.7 - packages samba-common-2.0.7-18mdk & samba-2.0.7-18mdk) on a server with Linux-Mandrake 7.2. The client uses both Win95 and Win98 workstations. The problem is that there appears to be no password checking at all, i.e a user with a valid login (i.e. a user in /etc/smbuser) can login without a password or even with a wrong...

Two annoying problems
Hey all - Two problems, one mine, one a friend's: (1) I have a small three-machine network at my office. The server is running Mandrake 7.2 with either the 2.2.17-21mdk stock kernel or a custom-compiled 2.4.1 kernel. It's running Samba 2.0.7-18mdk, configured correctly (as everything works when it's booted to the 2.2.17 kernel). I've moved to the 2.4.1 kernel because the USB stuff works *much* better. Under this kernel however, Samba (smbd) doesn't start up...smbclient -L gives a message about connection refused on port 139. S...

Don't see the same problem if I telnet, ftp or ssh to the server. System Configuration is as follows: Using Linux Server (Mandrake 7.2) running Samba 2.0.7-18MDK. Samba box is located on fixed IP ISDN connection. Client machine is dialling up to a local ISP and then connecting using the IP address of the Samba box. So the IP routing is being handled independently. Clients are using Win98 and Win98se. We don't seem to be getting any errors on linux box...
