Huge OO.org packages installed by default
I was just wondering if anyone here knows why the OO.org packages on
RHEL/Centos are so huge.
Eg. On Mandriva 2006:
40834529 OpenOffice.org
113064600 OpenOffice.org-libs
20124669 OpenOffice.org-help-en
19976941 OpenOffice.org-l10n-en
= ~185MB
On Centos 4:
683298379 openoffice.org-i18n
124072694 openoffice.org
111894560 openoffice.org-libs
= ~876MB!!
When I say 'installed by default' I mean that I selected the 'Office'
package group during the install of both OSes and didn't make any custom
package selections. Bo...

Query on improving throughput
Dear All,
We have a small setup of lustre with 7 OSTs on 8gb FC . We have kept one
OST per FC port. We have lustre 2.3 with CentOS 6.3. There are 32 clients
which access this over FDR IB. We can achieve more than 1.3GB/s
throughput using IOR, without cache. Which is roughly 185MB/s per OST. We
wanted to know if this is normal. Should we expect more from 8gb FC port.
OSTs are on 8+2 RAID6 .
Thanks and Regards

rsync client/server mode performance
...d rsyncd between 2 servers and transfering large files
over a 10Gbit fiber ethernet connection, what is the maximum speed of
rsync?
Is there some king of throttling in rsync when used in client/server mode?
I'm transfering files that are over 100GB each and I'm getting speeds of
around 185MB/s.
But both my connexion and my RAID arrays are much faster than that.
Is there something going on with rsync that slows speed down and that
I'm not aware of?
I'm using this command for the transfer: rsync -a --bwlimit=0 --stats
--progress [IP]::[source] [destination]
Thanx!

Performance issue on AIX when deleting files in a directory with a large number of files
Server:
- AIX5.3 with JFS2 file systems
- IBM pSeries 520 (1.9GHz p5+ CPU)
- Samba 3.0.22 (and the same problem exists in 3.0.21a)
- I tested Samba compiled from sources with GCC 4.0.2 and 3.4.3 same result
for both. I also downloaded the AIX binary from
http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/ and it has the same
problem as well.
Client:
MS Windows XP SP2

FW: Help Please! - Copying files from Windows to Samba share loses connection
Aaron,
Yes, I left the server string out intentionally because of how the mapped
drive description showed in Windows. Could this be causing my problem? I
was able to join this server to the domain and I could retrieive a list of
users using the winfo command.
Thanks!
Will
