firewall and * suggestions
...this hardware would be enough to serve
30 clients (I already have a centos firewall serving 8 users on a PC
celeron 1,3Ghz machine and top shows average load 0.00).
The other service they'll need is filesharing, which will be Samba
running on samba Dell PE1800 (although we could use a compaq 1850r PIII
600), while for the phone system I would like to set up Asterisk and I
was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with the Xorcom TS-1,
which seems a nice cost effective system.
Suggestions are very welcome, have a nice day.

preferences in used Compaq Proliant DL380 G1 vrs DL380 G2 etc
greetings,
for those of you in the know, may i have some assistance in helping to make
better decisions in purchasing more used server toys to install CentOS on
please? :-)
in the Compaq Proliant Rackmount DL380 line, the one that looks like the
older 1850R is called a G1 meaning Generation 1 right?
and then the DL380 G2 is a redesign that is gray and just has 6 drive bays
up front correct?
besides processor speed, do most of you prefer the DL380 G1 over the DL380
G2 or vice versa?
would you mind providing some extra info and experiences please so...

Newbie - Looking for pointers
Hi All,
I've been lurking on the list hoping to absorb all the knowledge
flitting past while the bits and pieces of my new * server arrive. Well,
most of the bits and pieces are here, and I've got the Digium hardware
installed and (I think) loaded properly (RedHat 9, Compaq 1850R, T100P,
TDM400P 2 port FXS). I'm still waiting on my Cisco 7940/7960 handsets
(ordered with SIP).
CVS'ed down all the components, sample configs, and "asterisk -vvvgc"
starts clean. The only change made so far is to noload chan_oss.
Anyway, I'd like to get comfortable with *...

4.8-RELEASE not identifying scsi drives
A problem with 4.8 reported by myself and Aaron D. Gifford.
Anyone in -stable who knows more?
********
I'm assembling a Compaq 1850R with attached storage system. For the
built in scsi controller (sym), there are three drives internally on
channel 1 + 5 drives externally on channel 2.
During boot, I can see all disks being identified first by the machine
itself and then in the early part of the process (something scrolls by...

extlinux issue
Trying again since the mailing list says I have a 'suspiscous header'.
I have been told to get linux running on two HP DL360G4p machines
(ancient rackmount xeon stuff). Unfortunately, while isolinux boots
fine from CDROM, and extlinux can boot a USB stick, I cannot get
extlinux to boot from the CCISS hard disks (two disks in hardware raid
1 configuration). I searched on google a lot,

Rackmount PC hardware suggestions
I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware
in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination.
I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that
understands correct component choice. Preferably, I'd like SCSI but
I might be able to do Ultra-IDE platforms. I need at least two PCI
slots in the chassis (so 2u/3u size factor is OK.)

Qs about FXO/FXS cards
Hello.
I am going to be putting together my first * system using FXO/FXS
interfaces. All the systems I have set up thus far have been pure VoIP
setups.
The system I need to set up should have 3 FXO interfaces and 1 FXS
interface, as well as several SIP phones. I have noticed people
complaining about Digium's TDM cards - are these isolated incidents or
are these cards unreliable? I intend to
